I am in Bangalore for over 2 years. It is better to take accomodation near place of work to avoid traffic. Also, it would be good if he owns his mode of transport instead of going for auto or call taxi or bus. Accomodation is costly in central locations. On an avg. 2 persons can do with a living expense of 8-10K per month. Rest may be his lifestyle expenses.

House Rent - 1BHK is Around 4000/- in good residential Areas and upto 7500/- in Posh Areas. For house we have to pay security refundable deposit of around 10 months rent.

Food and daily basic needs will be around 4K.
Remaining expense is left to the person who leaves here.

Now a days we wont get reasonable food itself for Rs. 20/-. Minimum itself is Rs.25/-
House rent is in Peak compared to other southern cities. we can't think about the advance for the house. Where in the other cities advance amount is around 3 months rent.
Bus fare is not little high it is too high.
I agree about the auto fare as it is lesser compared to other cities in India.
Even food items(Rice & Dal) also comparatively higher than other cities.

There is nothing you said that made me to hurt. I rather appreciate the way of your communication. Let me tell you something. I said you will get food in that rate in some places like, Tipasandra, kr puram, windsor garden, koramangala last stop, jakasandra etc.. The house which I was staying was 12k and now they have reduced it to 7k...Its due because of recession (at least it is helping us in this way)
Rice and dal is little costlier because, A.P. & T.N. are the major producers of these things and it has been transported to other places.
Bus rates are high if compared with T.N. The reason is the public transportation rate in Chennai itself is lesser than the other cities in T.N. its only because of the subsidary procedure in T.N. Govt.'s policy.
I don't say that Bangalore is a cheaper place. Instead let me remind you that nowadays every places are becoming costlier. a place like Trivandrum (my hometown) is so costly than Chennai (I was actually surprised). Rather they don't have multiple choices in commodities.
Please don't mistake me if in case you feel that my words are little hard to take.

Actually I don't know the cost of living in Trivendrum. Even I hv some frnds from kerala & they are telling as not costly as Bangalore. I do agree with you for increasing the cost of living in other cities like Hyderabad & Chennai but compared to here it is quite economical.

Bangalore is expensive. However, it is manageable. Since your friend is conservative in his spending habits, I dont think it should be much of a problem. Someone with a 30-35k salary can maintain a decent lifestyle and even spare some for savings.
The point to be noted here is whether your friend has any outstanding liabilities like loans etc which may drastically limit his financial freedom.
I have attached an expense chart(average) which I hope will be helpful.

For me 2 BHK Flat cost 6500 excluding electricity. As I am also family man Food costs 5000 to 7000 RS. So these 2 are basic expenditure. If you don't have LPG connection it will cost 680 if you go for private as it is difficult to get LPG connection without local Ration card. In terms of outing (for food) B'lor is expensive but don't forget you don't need AC at flat as B'lore has natural AC......
