Competency Mapping helps us in identifying an individual’s strengthen and weaknesses and how an organization can utilize those resources in the right way. It’s like identifying the “RIGHT person for the RIGHT JOB”. It provides a clear picture of people at work, so Managers can make decisions that work for their businesses and their customers. This is very useful if applied in an organization

Competency mapping is basicially a 360 degree mapping of an individual in the work field. It includes personal traits, qualities, professional qualities, technical or educational qualifications, etc etc. This throws light on the complete individual. So even when a person might be educationally and professionally qualified, his other traits and qualities may not be suitable with the job requirements. A total competency mapping brings these hidden aspects to light. This kind of a mapping can even be performed on existing employees for organisational development.
