Dear Vivek,
People choose HR because it deals directly with the employees.
HR means Human Resource and the various acctivities related to it are:-
1) Recruitment & Selection
2) Training & Development
3) Performance Appraisal
4) Industrial Relations
5) Admiistration
6) Formulation of Policies
7) Hiring & Firing
8) Manpower Planning
9) Payroll & Attendance
10) Organisation Development
There are more activities but these are some core activities which i have listed out....
HR not only means to handle Recruitment, Training, PMS, etc. but it also means to deal in IR (Industrial Relations) which today the fresh MBA's are scared of going into.
One can say that HR is the soul of an organisation since it formulated policies and gets the best person in the company and motivates them to perform.

Greetings,

Dear Vivek

Why a person is choosing any esteem of career, is always different person to person.

For instance, I asked one of my friends (Fin. Manager) Why did you choose Finance for a career, he replied that he found himself very good in calculating and accounting while he used to purchase goods for family during his school days. So, he pursued B.Com followed by MBA-Fin.
At present he is working in the capacity of Finance Manager in Dubai.

For me, why did I like HR?

I started my career with a part time job as a junior payroll accountant during my Graduation. There I found that I was very good to handle the employees, to make them understand policies and procedures as well as good in communicating Banks' People. Sometimes, in some discrepencies, my seniors were unable to make the employees understand and I did it. Then, one of my seniors remarked that I could be a good HR and I studied for HR, determined my career in HR.

I told you these stories only to point out that why one is choosing a career it depends on the one's interest and one's expertise as well as upon the guidance he was provided. For a Successful Finance Manager, Finance is the best field as well for successful HR, no other field are so good as HR.

However to add on:
Being a people's person by nature, I think a job related to handling people and emotions can be executed well by me...compared with analyzing numbers. Oh I hate that... But sometimes unknowingly do a good job with numbers too when its connected with hiring people.. ;-)

Hi vivek...
This is a very good & much-needed research you are doing! First of all, thank you for this.
And as for why HR???
According to me....the ppl at higher management level enter into HR after a vast experience in managing people. Years of dealing with people across all the fronts make them handle HR function.
As for others, I know ppl who get into HR by omission. Or people with no inclination towards Finance. Mind you, I am not saying everyone does that, as I respect others choice too! :) I am an HR professional myself. I entered into HR line 'cause at the time of choice-making, I had thought it was a very dignified & respectful job!!
Cheers for all HR professionals (Everyone who is HR by choice or No choice.....;)!!!

All dear friends,

All of you have given really nice and justifiable replies.

Most of the points are covered in it even what I wanted to say.

Thanks for the links too.

Am too like Ms. Asha, just WORST with nos but enjoy a lottt when dealing with variety of people, their problems, their talent, their aspirations, the way they mold themselves, educationally, experiencewise, surroundingwise, wisdomwise, soooooo much to learn. Also there is so much to learn and develop in oneself through all the HR activities Ankit listed in brief. What Rashid said that's too absolutely right.

I opted for HR coz, I think am excellent at communication, am very good in couselling, am very good co-ordinator & at times leader too. I love to lead, I love to share and solve problems of people and I also love activities like hiring bestest talent, retaining them, networking and knowing more & more people, all and much more in HR.

Sometimes, definitely it's a thankless job, but then, as Anuja said, it's BY CHOICE!

& why to think, see and impliment the bad sides of a field?

Congrats for the topic you have selected for research.

All D Best!

Do share more views with all of us.

Hello,
I am not concern into HR Dept., but as an employee, HR play a responsible role for any company because without an HR a company can never run success.
One thing more a company employee directly keep in touch with HR person not the higher person whose who are sitting inside the cabin. HR is only the person who can communicate both sides and thinks about employee's benefit as well as company's.
