Dear Friends,

I am a B.Com graduate with 5 years of experience in Human Resources, currently working in a Limited company. I am planning to pursue an MBA through correspondence. Can you please suggest a university that offers a good scope for a correspondence course and provide details about the university?

Thank you.

Hi Venky,

You can opt for Symbiosis, IMT Ghaziabad, or Annamalai University. They provide good study resources with vast coverage of study centers. If you have 5+ years of experience after graduation, you can also consider pursuing an Executive Diploma in HR from reputable institutes like IIMs (please check the accurate eligibility from the website). Additionally, there are satellite programs running in HR institutes like XLRI.

All the best!! Arti :)

Hi Venky and Deepisha,

I don't know whether you are working or not, but if you are really interested in correspondence courses, Tilak Maharashtra University is offering an MBA in Distance Mode. The fees charged are also comparatively low. Symbiosis is another option, but it is not distance; it is on a part-time basis from my knowledge. ICFAI University is also a good option. For finance-related career options, there are various diplomas available with fee structures ranging from 29K to 4L per year. Adarsh Shikshan Sanstha is offering an Executive MBA, which is autonomous but carries greater weightage. These are some of the universities that offer MBA programs in distance mode. I completed my MBA from Tilak Maharashtra University just a few months ago, and it's good.

If possible, I will send you more details.

Hi Viju,

I have a Ph.D. in Psychology and I am interested in shifting to HR. Could you please inform me about Tilak University or any other university in Pune that specializes in HR, along with details about their pay structure or part-time programs? I am a working mother, so I need a program that accommodates my schedule.

In my opinion, please don't get into distance learning or such courses which are either online, part-time, or in DL mode. It won't help you to get a good job. Please enroll in full-time courses. In today's scenario, even they are finding it difficult to break into a better job with a DL qualification. Companies are not finding it worth hiring people with DL/part-time qualifications. It's not worth anything.

Dear Venky,

Since you're already employed, I suggest you go for IGNOU because this university has study centers at almost all places in India. They are conducting contact classes at study centers, which help you clarify your doubts every now and then.

I have around 3+ years of experience in the HR domain. I completed my MHRM from Pondicherry University through Distance Education 4 years ago, and my UG is BE (EEE). However, some companies like Infosys and others, when they call, after knowing that I have done my Masters through DDE, they are not calling back. Some individuals directly mention that they are looking for candidates who have completed an MBA in a regular program. So, is it advisable to pursue an MBA through Correspondence? I have observed that some individuals who completed a regular MBA from certain colleges are lagging behind us in work; however, with the label "Regular," they easily secure positions in branded companies.

People need to change their mentality and understand that candidates with a DDE MBA can perform even better than Regular MBAs.

Hello, Gagan Sahani,

I have read your opinion, and I do not agree with you. These days, the person who is working in an organization has no time to enroll in a regular course. In these situations, he/she can get a degree from distance learning, and we are getting most of the information online. So, how can you say DL provides worthwhile education?

Hi Venky,

Please let me know your present location so that I can suggest an institution for MBA or PGDBS (2 years) Exe-MBA based on that. Also, specify your budget as there are many institutes offering these programs, and we can decide based on the cost, reputation, and syllabus of the institution.

Thank you,
Prabakar

Dear Arohi & Venky,

You can also look into MBA courses from Ignou. My friend and I are also pursuing our MBAs there or from IMT Ghaziabad. Both are renowned universities with centers all over India. You can search on their websites as well. IGNOU's website is www.ignou.ac.in. It may be a little tough, but many professionals in my area have completed it successfully.

Kindly let me know if you choose one of them. All the best.

Dear all,

I have taken admission in BSc. in IGNOU (Distance course). In the meantime, I had taken admission in IICT (DISTANCE) Lucknow for Diploma in Marketing & Sales, which I have completed. However, my BSc. hasn't cleared yet. Based on the diploma course, I have taken admission in ISBM for an MBA in Marketing.

So, please suggest to me if this is the right way to pursue an MBA or not.

Dear Venky,

If you are looking for a knowledge-based course, I suggest you go for ICFAI. However, it is expensive compared to other institutes, and moreover, this course has a vast syllabus and requires time. Symbiosis is not good in terms of curriculum, but for a degree from a reputed institute, Symbiosis is good. If you are looking for something related to only HR, you can go for Diploma HR courses. They provide 1-year courses and conduct lectures on weekends. These courses allow you to attend lectures, do projects, etc.

Hope this might help you make a decision.

All the best.

Anu

Hi Venky,

Are you based out of Delhi NCR? If yes, then I can let you know of a good option from where I did my MBA. You can do it alongside your job; it's an evening executive MBA, and it's wonderful. I mean the university/college/faculty and all.

Dear Venky,

If you have good experience, why don't you try Executive MBA.

I am an MBA graduate. I completed my MBA from SCMS-COCHIN. This is a full-time program. They groomed us like anything. The communication and interpersonal skills have really improved. They gave us utmost care in developing our skills and providing excellent training in Management subjects. After 2 years of study, you will surely feel a drastic change in you.

I was a visiting faculty for ICFAI distance education. What I understood from there is that, for the sake of taking a degree, distance education helps. But I am sure that you won't get the essence of an MBA.

What I experienced from my students is that they never come to class, do not attend class tests. Some people fail exams, whereas some luckily clear it.

If you search for job opportunities, many good companies, who are looking for an MBA holder, clearly specify FULL TIME.

Final discretion is yours.

Anna University Syllabus is very good. Please confirm whether they have a distance program. Another option for you is that before you take up any course, please go through the syllabus and take the latest syllabus. This will surely help you in sync with the latest trends in Management.

All the best for your higher studies.

Thank You.

Haritha
