You could look at the facilities provided by BPOs which have the maximum number of people working at these odd hours.
You could look to pay a reasonable amount of Rs 175/ night shift in case you do not add it as a separate component in the CTC itself.
It is best to have a weekly rotational shift as employees know it would be over quickly.
You need to provide early morning breakfast/ snacks to employees working at these hours & transport facility (pick/ drop) at least to female employees if not all employees. As for technical support you need to have one staff from system admin to take care of any problems apart from this take additional precautions only when faced with specific problems.

Hi Kalpana,

The answer to your queries

1. What are the allowances during this shift

Your organization may have a seperate Nght Shift Allowance for such employees. Amount may vary from company to company but then what I feel is that this allowance must be same for all profiles whether Executive, Sr. Exec, etc. etc..

For eg. we have an additional fixed allowance of Rs 2K p.m.

2. How much incentive we pay for a resource for complete night shifts

In my opinion the incentive plan should be same for all shifts for a particular profile / position. You may add just the allowance part for people working in night shifts.

3. -Precautions to take care at technical front during night shift

All usual precautions which you have in day shift timings.. additionally, please see there are easily available means of Transport during the night from your office if any employee wants to leave early during any emergency situation. Contact details of all emergency services including Hospitals and Ambulance. Proper security arrangements and if possible an admn staff (based upon req.) to look after any issue and ensure evertything is moving smoothly and ensure that supplies are OK.

4. Benefits provided to an employee during this shift

You may have any added benefit which your organization feels and additional allowance is one of them. You should have transport facility as in the night time its difficult to commute. Then you may have food / snacks etc. etc..

5. Rotation of the resources during this shift (biweekly, monthly or quarterly—which one will work better and motivating

Actually to work in night shifts our body should get accustomed to the new biological clock and that takes some time, depending upon person to person, may take week, 10 days or more. Even sometime someone finds very difficult to work in night shift mainly due to digestive problems etc. etc.. So in my view we should not rotate the shifts very frequently. You may rotate not before a month, at leat. You may do it quarterly (3 months) also.

MOST IMP. Please check about your permissions to employ workforce in night - if your org is registered under your state Shops and Estab. Act as your Org. will have to take special permission to allow working of Females in night shift (if there are any of them after 7 pm till 6-7 am). And for this there are many compliances/precautions/saftey measure your organization will have to take and then apply to Female Welfare Officer to get such permissions.
