Dear All,
When to go for outbound training? Which situation, training need must be fulfilled through OBT? Either in house session is enough or OBT can add some value?
Please share your views.
Thanks

Dear Manish,

You can opt for outbound training when you train your staffs on Teamwork.

When we conduct training, it is conducted to build particular competency. Competency-building is your primary concern. Outbound or Inbound is secondary concern. Outbound or inbound training is only a method. Both the methods are not foolproof. Either method may succeed very well or fail too. Success of either method depends on mindset of the participants, organisation's culture, method of execution etc.

I have come across with HR/Training Managers complaining that when the participants were sent for outbound training, participants enjoyed the training to the core. However, not much enjoyment was translated into improved work atmosphere and they were back to square one.

In outbound training, participants can have easy and outgoing atmosphere. Outbound training is preferred because it serves both purposes - unwinding and learning. But at times, by playing continuous games, participants get bored too. Therefore, it makes sense to supplement some in-house discussion even though the training programme is outbound.

Thanks,

Thanks Dinesh!
Team building is a big topic which encompasses many other topics like:
1) Appreciation towards one another's strengths and weaknesses
2) Sensitivity
3) Opening up & closure of conflicts
4) Establishing real relationships
5) Discovering a sense of determination and "can-do" which were all latent
6) Identifying & Developing Leaders
7) Breaking down personal and organizational barriers
8) Discovering ways to be motivated
9) Rekindling lost faith & trust
& many more.....
Therefore OBT can serve a broader training needs. Right?

Dear Manish,

Just yesterday, my friend who is an GM of prominent of hotel of Bangalore, told that they their corporate office had arranged OBT on teamwork. It was for senior level managers only. Trainer was especially brought from Mumbai. It was quite eventful day packed with lot of activities. Most of the seniors enjoyed lot.

I asked him how long he expects the effect of the training to last? He told that in just a week, the effect in waning. By month's time he told that the effect will taper off completely.

Teamwork is a result of following factors:

a) Organisation's culture
b) Understanding of the concept of organisational communication by the staff members
c) Conflict handling skills
d) Interpersonal skills
e) Employee empowerment

You first arrange the training on the above modules. The issues that are (organisation's) culture centric can never be addressed through OBT.

Training on conflict handling skills is necessary buecause what matters is ability of generate positive conflict or functional conflict by the team leaders. But again it is (Organisation's) culture centric issue and one requires lot of maturity to do that.

Of the above modules the last module is very crucial. In Bangalore there are hundreds and thousands of techies who draw 1 Lakh+ salary but do not have any authority to speak off. When I talk about empowering their staff, they reply that through I am a project manager, who has empowered me so that I can empower my team members further? And there lies the crux!

Ok...
