Dear Archana,
I agree with Mr. Kishore. Though you can not avoid this kind of people, you can start ignoring them. You should not get disturbed by their presence.
You have to know the difference between-
Circle of control - Things that are under your control - you can change.
Circle of concern- You can only feel for that- but cannot control.
If the above problem falls into first one - you can take some risk in solving it.
If it is second one, then you can only feel for it. dont get disturbed -but carry on with your duty.
This is my way of looking at things- i donnot whether this inspires you!

Hi friend,

I read your problem. This is a common problem of all the organisations. Seniors just try to impose the work load on the Juniors.

I have also served with a Security Company. I think, if one is able to handle the security company for four or five years. He can handle all the grievances whether the grievance is related with the employees or employer.

I just want to suggest you that do as they do. If they are lazy, you also try to be lazy. They are seniors. It doesn't mean that they will do whatever they want. There will be a upper management who are over these seniors. You just become lazy. To see your laziness, they will start working because of their reputation. Now it's come to their reputation to solve all the problem related with the seminars, function etc... It may be possible that they try to out you from the committee and they do it, then later they will realise your importance. They will remove u from the committee not from the organisation. If u have guts you will be selected later by the other members.

Just try to do this once or twice, the result will be infront of you.

Hi!
At the outset I would like to say that it appears this is not a TEAM rather just a group of people working together and there seems to be some problem in the leadership also. so as a first step the said Gp has to be converted into a team with proper bonding and a sense of belonging with appropriate team leader. in this case as the task is to org. the said events so the leadership may be SITUATIONAL leadership. once these r established half the battle is over.
Sleeping members also play a role in the entire play atleast for constructive criticism which is necessary to keep balance. rest of the problems may take care themselves once the team is in winning mode as nothing succeeds like success.
The views expressed above r my personal views not be taken as suggestions from sleeping members :P
will add more later.
with best regards

Hi Dear,
There is universal proverb, you might have known from lively hood.
"The bullocks while pluging farm (field) the farmer always beat the bullock which is walking fast than the other." Like that the team work,
those who are doing the work on their shoulder their job is always like
that. So never mind !!!!!!
My suggestion is first of all you frame your work. Since you short it out
in which area for respective one. And agin observe the siting and enjoining
people. Then you give some sort of job work to them with specific target.
Rest of the things which are more important in the task you and your clegues share.
Some what your problems may solve.

Hey ALL,
Thanks a lot for the whole bunch of wonderful responses.
I'm feeling so good now after reading all the thoughts expressed here.
Dear Alok,
There are times when you work in group you do not have a leader. It is the criticism, non work of these sleeping members which suddenly makes a Leader. But actually the LEADER never worked like a leader due to various reasons, otherwise the things would have sorted out long ago.
Looking forward for more suggestions from all of you on this.
Thanks again,
Archna

:) hi Archana,
i mean wether u feel that u r not working for the team or there is no leader in ur team u r still contributing ur work to the organisation this means that evey one individual is putting or adding some work tothe organisation. if u think u r doing only ur work then also u r contributing to ur org and the same with ur colleagues. this is how an organisation is complete team work if anybody delays the work it hinders the whole process of the organisation.
and when u talk of team without leader that means ur oganisation giving u chance to have ur own leader or become leader show up ur capabilities, work ethusiastically, there r times when u feel ur boss is not listening u but neve lose ur confidence and nor compromise the quality of work someday it will pay back to u and develop ur personality.

Dear archnahr,
All active participants knows the extent the work has been accompolished,
now keep the current state in freez.
Now simulate a possibility,not-possible situation in front of the whole group. Make sure the non active participants give their contribution as if you all do not have a solution or dont know to proceed.
It would be a simulation game of route 1,route 2, route 3 etc.
make sure you (active participants) give a negative point ,like what if this fails, what if it takes more time etc.
Surely few malingerers would skip because they cannot stand resentment.
Guess it would trigger you with mulitple options.

Hello,
Very interesting.
I forgot to add that at times when all the team members met to discuss or brainstorm they were all present.
We did exactly what is written by Vennupuru. The outcome was some sooooooo negative remarks by one of them, that at one point everybody was feeling depressed.
The other thing is there was a teammate I trusted alot, I think everybody did. This person has given a lot of suggestions and sounded very positive.
He took a lot of responsibility and we all agree as he is very senior.
But the outcome was ZERO, when he was required the most, he was not there. And once the things started gearing up for one of the seminar, he came up again with some suggestions and criticism with a lot of sarcasm.
We all got hurt, And I'm till today. And this is one of the reasons I want him to know what team work is.
KIndly share your inputs.

HI Archna....

what i rember is Iron lady Indira Gandhis Quote-there are two kinds of ppl in this world, those who love work and those take the credit, is it not better to be in the first group?

the ist group will all ways have lots of work... infact u can make out by looking at their desk.. there will be piles of files.....

and now we have some thing which is told to the kids in the b school where i teach at times..

Smart working and hard working

you know the difference.. there is a story...

Lord Shiva and his wife godess Parvati were happily living with their two 'Kiddos'.. Lord Master Ganesha and Lord Master Muruga... one day some one gifted the family a unique and mouth watering kinda fruit... rember its was just one fruit and you know what happens when 2 lord kidos find just a single fruit.. obviously they didnt want to share it also... so the parents had only one option.. it was decided that the kido lord who did 5 times around the world first would get to taste the much desired fruit... then what happend??????

suspense....

Lord muruga had his super -sonic peacok jet at his disposal , he has already started circling the 'small world'.But alas our cute lord ganesha had only the mice gaadi... do you know what he did?????

suspense....

he went around his parents 5 times and sought their blessings!!! man he knew how to impress his parents... what a strategist.. right?

by the time lord muruga came victoriously ... our lord vigneswara was licking his fingers after the treat.....

so ... moral of the story is .... you can only wake up those who are actually sleeping, you do your best and GET Going........ one day will come every one concerned will realise who is who and then its will be fine... the exposure you get from voluntary efforts is worth more than an thing else.......what do ya say??????

regards
