Dear all,

I don't call as seniors or juniors; but I need help from all of you. Rather you may say that I want different views to go to a decission.

By education I am medical doctor and want to excel in HR practices so persuing MBA in HR and working as consultant for a recruitment firm. In my firm I am having very comfortable work culture and of course I am enjoying the work. I do things independtly from developing clients to final settlements of bills. I am able to make business of around 1L per month since last 8-9 months constantly. I have started working for consultancy 1 and half yrs back. I get very nice remuneration of 30% of revenue generated by me.

Now the question is-

I went for a interview in another firm. There they offer me package as below-

1. Fixed salary- 17500pm

2. Mobile bill

3. Half yearly incentives with target of 20 L of revenue generation @ 5 %

4. Bonus + other yearly benefits.

Timings- 9.30 to 6.00 No work after 6.00 pm

Please suggest me whether I go with this option or stuck to first job?

Regards,

Dr Manisha

dear M
I am an independent Quality management consultant with engineering background.Years back I had the same question.
the answer is as follows
go by what satisfies you.Do what you love.Money will follow .
do not make career moves just because you have got an offer.
It appears that you have sufficient autonomy in your work now.
another way is to make list of "essentials" things you require from any job and also the "desirables".
e.g "nearness to home" is desirable whereas "savings" is essential.
give marks out of 10 to each item and addup.
the decision is made systematically.the one which gets more aggregate marks will win.
make sure you take all the major aspects while assigning the parameters.
hope this will bring some clarity.
I have made my career choices using this method and it is very useful.
regards
veera
Dear Veera, Thanks a lot for your helpful suggestion. I was about to select to remain in my old job only. You suggestion helped me to support my decision. Regards, Dr Manisha
Dear Manisha,
As i have seen this industry working since few years, to get an offer with increased remuneration is never a difficult task for a right person. Accordingly its the profession & the expertize that you will have to build up over the years. This shall mean keeping in pace with the outside world.
Having said this if you think the learning curve or any particular aspect has come down or is about to in your currrent place then, it would mean something for you to actually think for a change in the job.
I would see the profession as the longer the time of stay at one place then wider will be the responsibilites & expertize.
But its the final call from your side to decide which is priority for you.
ALL THE BEST

Abhi
dear Dr. Manisha,
It is the correct decision you have taken to stick to present one.
From your post, it is understood that money is not the first critera and you love to have freedom, autonomy etc. which are really essential.
Now a days, the corporate industry has become such a way that money is offered in order to take more and more time. People are loosing their time, energy, freedom, autnomy, independence, very importantly FAMILY. They find it very difficult to balance the strike.
As a medical doctors, you may be knowing better, that now a days, many organisations suggest their employees to go for stress management training, yoga, meditation and have check up from psychologists.
Since after 6.00 pm you are free, you can have your practice also.
So be happy that you have taken a right decision :)

dear M It is good to see that you have arrived at a decision.May you find happiness in Whatever you do Regrds Veera
Dear Mr Senthil Raj,
Actually I have taken the decision not to go for practice but in the new job they told that there no one be in the office after 6.00 pm. This is one of things for which I wanted to quit. My work style is I start working after 3.00 pm to 9.00, 10.00.......pm. The period which is actually productivefor me.
Also because of that only I get mental peace.

hi manisha,
after understanding your question i would suggest you to apply in a corporte rather than going in for a consultancy again...
since you are currently pursuing MBA-HR i would also suggest you to complete minimum of 2 yrs in the current consultancy and then directly apply in a corporate...
regds,
sushma
Dear Sushma,
Your suggestion is no doubt very good; but for me I find consultancy is better, as results of my one of the competative exams are out and I am selected as Class I gazated officer with Government of Maharashtra, may be in home ministry and it is an administrative service.
So I am comfortable with consultancy as I may utilise my laisour time and talent as well.
Therefore currently corporate is not suitable for me or I am not suitable for corporate. Don't know what will happen after 2 years. Till then I will be in consultancy only.

Dr Manisha
