Hello everyone,
I have an issue to share. I always wanted to get into generalist profile in HR but my field always routed through training and Development (Which initiatially i thought will be a step to move towards generalist profile). But now I have 4 years of Experience in Training wherein i have given Softskills, process and behavioral trainings. I am currently working as a HRD Officer. But i still have that urge to move into generalist profile and my experience does not allow me to do so.
Is it possible for me to move to my desired field now with the same cadre because i dont want to compromise on my level of experience, salary and designation? Or should i accept the fact that this is too late to change my field now.
Not forgetting to mention i like the job which i do . But still have a favourable corner for moving into HR Generic profile.
Please guide.
Thank you

Hi Manishah,
I am not aware of your Graduation and the HR Generic profile you actually meant. you just do the course relavently which will lead you to show your knowledge and experience.
Please let me know any doubts and concerns.

Thank you Harish for your response.
With regards to my educational credentials - i have completed my BBA (regular) and am pursuing my MBA (3rd Sem) in HR from MDU. During my first job in 2005, through IJP i got into training department and i thought this will be a good idea to move to HR as i had plans to get into HR department only. But moving ahead... all my career prospects were in training only from then. While i was handling training in my first job (where i stayed for 3 years) i also used to do some of the work of Line HR as well( which i enjoyed and thought this is what i wanted). Now that i am purely in training and development field and holds a 4 yrs of experience in this i miss to move back to line HR (generic HR profile).
Hope i cleared the queries you had. Please let me know if any further queries persist and suggest accordingly.

Hi Manisha,

From your words and working experience, I come to know that you were working in HR for very short time.

you are having 4 years of experience in training department. ( say ) you are having 6 months exp in HR from last firm. The thing is like noone will be ready to loose the candidate who is having 4 years of experience. So your interest will not be considered at that time.

What you can do is just meet the Lead of HR Dept in your current firm and express your interest to him/her. Just say him that you are interested to work in HR Dept. I am sure that her / she will be negative at first. But you just say that you are ready to the activities which you did in last company and if you got some work, extend your time to do it emotionally. At the same time, Just get a good bond in that team too. So that you will be feeling free to get help from them and they can share their exp and work with you.

If any vacancy is there and you are worth to them, They will surely get you into their team. All the Best. and Hope you will be HR within an year.

Please feel free to ask me still more doubts you have.

thank you Harish for your valuable comments!
I would surely speak to my HR head soon.
But one thing that bothers me is .. my current HRD manager is not in good term with the HR head and she has instructed me not to speak to them (the HR team) much and i have joined this company in June only so me being very new to this organisation do you think it will be possible?

Persons may be liked on one's own considerations. Dont consider about the inner politics and rumors. We have to get forward until we reach our destination. So go on.
And you are new to this company, So this is the right time to do what I said. If you ask now, they may think that you had voluntarily worked in your previous company too, So Basically It is your nature to share other's work and you are eager to learn a part from your edge. This will be a good impression on them.
But don’t miss you job assignments to submit in timings. Keep on though and share their reaction to me. All the best once again.
