Hi All,
I work in a Resort as a Manager. We include service charges in our rooms, restaurants, etc. A complaint was lodged to my office lately and it says that we should not collecr svc chg for our "food to go" items since there is no waiter service involved. Is this right?

For room services provided are only liable to service tax . For foods provided at restaurant are not eligible for service tax. For food provided at room will be liable for service tax.

Hi Dinesh,
Thanks for your prompt reply. Is there a hotel policy or law on service charges where you based your post? Although I agree with you but I believe there is a basis from where these points were taken.

Hi rguph, What’s the significant difference between a service tax and service charge? I have my ideas but I would like to have yours too.
