Hi Damodar
I work as a marketing proffessional. And my job is really not a revenue generation but yes it requires a lot of thinking and thought prosess.Which I'am sure goes into a HR job like yours.
Well cant comment which one is the best. Its the consolidated efforts of the various departments that will help an organisation reach profits.I agree HR jobs are a lil' relaxed but calling them less-important does not help

Hi Damodhar:
Leave alone what others think of HR; how you feel about it?
You are an MBA with specialisation HR. What do you feel about it?
How a profession is valued depends more on a professional's contribution. If you want, by your contribution, you can demonstrate to everyone how critical is HR's role in the organization. Will you bring laurerls to the wonderful profession of HR?

Hi Damodar,
Being in HR you have to look internal customers, which are your employees / colleagues and being in Mktg they have to look external customers of the organisation. This is one difference but your contribution to the organisation is important be in HR or MKTG or Finance.

To clear this doubt I am studying MBa with Bi-Majors in Mkt & HR. Marketing is related to creativity and everyone knows, but am enjoying studying HR. Its totally a new thing to me, dealing ur internal customers other then the external customers.
