FYI - this is an added responsibility for Chum...not the only responsiblity.

You have no rights to consider whether a person is fit for that job...or ONLY fit for the job. Suggestion is not required on your certification of the same.

Kindly read b4 posting "IT IS AN ADDED RESPONSIBLITY"

According to me, an added responsibility comes only when the current portfolio is beign well handled and the person can handle more.

More over canteen operation is a part of IR, and that is where IR issues arise. What will you do if you are in-charge of canteen - and one day an employee poisons the food / or puts a cock roach in the side dish...and blame the management for it?

Wonder if you are ever oriented abt the HR subjetcs..or even know what IR is related to - Canteen is a major part.

I dont blame you - experience or your ignorance - but what ever you commented is RUBBISH!

And abt previous canteen experience being "Excellent" then it means Chum already has experience with IR. Oh - SOrry... You never knew that Canteen Operations were a part of IR right?

Hello,
As has been rightly posted by others I also would say that taking responsibility of the Canteen operations is one of the integral task in the IR domain and believe me, it will give you immense confidence and maturity in yourself after some time.
I would say that you should grab this oppurtunity and not look back. Canteen Mgt. is really the stepping stone in one HR/IR career.
Make sure to keep eye on safety, food quality, strict adherence to lunch/snack timings, hygeine and of course the cost ( hope this may be part of your KRA - to manage the canteen within agreed cost)
Try building good rapport with the other canteen management committee members over time and communicate well and clear as this is vital to be successful in this role and please do surprise Canteen Audits to check if everything is in order.
All the best,
Bye

Hi,
I happen to recollect a case that my Prof. explained to me in my class when you mentioned CANTEEN. And what I drew from it is that if you want to be an Effective IR MAN..you start from the Canteen...trust me...Canteen..supposedly...the hangout of people in the organisation....SPEAKS LOUD and will teach you amazing lessons on People Handling.
Trade Unions - IR ...any bells ringing????
They say "The way to a Man's heart is his stomach" so don't just say NO...start off with it...and if you cannot tolerate it....you at least have the face to say I TRIED...
WISH YOU LUCK

Dear Chum,
Dont take canteen operations on a regular basis becuase you have to monitor everything in HR,you can do monitor of canteen on a random basis.
Yes,ask to your boss to appoint one assisstant under you than you can accept challange for canteen & other welfare amenities.
You should be clear with your boss regarding canteen operation.
It is responsibility of you but you have manage entire work of HR which is a very busy work.
Please clear with your boss that he can assign this responsibility to someone else and you can assist to him.

Chum,
My appreciations for your open thoughts and opinion on the opportunity you are compelled to take up.
Today's market requires you to be a rounded resource and not much a focussed resource. If you are looking for challenges there are enough challenges in the Canteen operations. Hate may not be a good word to use being in a HR function. You would have to like it yourself even to convince someone else to take it up under your supervision.. You have to anyway like it also to convince your boss on your choice. :-) Wish you Good luck on your negotiations.

Hi dear fren
Well as u mentioned till nw d attitude of mgmt towards canteen was not gr8, but by coming up with innovative measures u cn mak canteen a very gud place....
canteen is thronged by most ppl of organisation all d times n hence u can form very good contacts in the organisation itself.
moreover you if possible delegate d operational part of canteen to sm subordinate n urself juzz take up d planning responsibility
ALL D BEST.... JUZZ PROVE URSELF

Hi Chum
Be a optimistic and think of taking the challenge, If ur not interested it means ur running out of the responsibilities. Employee relations & Industrial relations starts 4m Canteen management itself, keep move on and take new resppp....u will get the success and more exposure.

HI
BUDDDY,
I am quite agree with what DIVYA has Guide d u in this case. As U have done good job and as a part of appraisal u got this thing in your hand now so any way when u ahv expressed your partial disagrement to your boss then definately you can ask for support from the management by having a helping hand for canteen operations and if still that doesn't excites you then MOVE ON, but ya think once this can be an opportunity also for youto learn a new part of HR.
