Hello,

I am supposed to meet with my boss soon to draft philosophy, mission, and vision statements. Does anyone have samples that I can browse through? I want to be well-read so I can bring something to the table.

Hi,

Do not make any ready-made vision. It will be mere words. It will be done better by a copywriter in an ad agency. You should conduct a long meeting of all senior people, make them visualize the future and their values, and then a statement will evolve. The English will not be good, but the output will have value. Later, you can polish the English, divide them into teams, and make them do it. Make sure all sections are represented in the meeting. Otherwise, there will be a lofty vision statement, but it will not be owned by anyone. So, do not sit with your boss and make a vision. Read the book "Built to Last." You will get many samples.

Usually, a vision is the center point and is supposed to be timeless and enduring. The mission is more about business strategy, while the values may or may not link with either.

I agree with Veera. As HR, you can act as the facilitator and ensure that the leadership team gives their inputs. Still, if you want, go ahead and Google some other telecom companies and see what they are working with.

Hi,

When you sit with your boss to plan your open house, please make sure the event is held for a full day at least. Choose a venue away from the office and keep the setting informal. There should be a sense of sharing and openness.
