Dear All,
"What will you do as a HR Head if some Govt. official asks you or any of your team members for bribe to release some document/payment to your company?"
What should be an appropriate answer? Mind you, this question is asked to probe the integrity values of the candidate.
Awaiting responses.

Hi,
I would pay and get the document. That's it. No further questions. If you ask why? Well that's a different story altogether.
One more thing - I would really like to know as to what you would do in such a situation???
Thanks and regards

Gentleman,
You should not ask this on public, because answer is not legal because bribe is illegal and how to say in order to get the things done you bribe government officials that may backfire on you if you caught with evidance bribing.
Although, this is culture in all third world countries of Africa and Asia corruption in govrnment is hallmark of these poor countries.

I think people are getting me wrong here. Let me rephrase my question.
For those in favour of giving bribe:
"How will you convince your management to pay bribe and get the things done?"
For those not in favour of giving bribe:
"How will you justify your stand of not giving bribe?"
Hope responses to these two questions will get me an answer I'm looking for.

why should we convince the management,,, anyways u can show it by faking a bill of some hotel and showing it as entertainment to guests, refreshments there are lots of ways on how to show the payment of bribe money as normal office expenses, the people who give bribe know it all :-D:-D:-D
else be a nice and put it all on ur boss, just inform ur boss that the govt official is demanding bribe and let him take decision, just escalate the case to ur boss its his headache,,,,

Now a days bribery is a useful tool to get the work done in easiest way. Entrepreneur knows that without bribery to get the work done from Govt. department/Pvt. department is not easy task. Management will pay attention on your negotiation skills (what they demand ( – )what you gave to them = money saved by you and your efforts to get work done).

It seems very funny that we professionals are suggesting the same even after getting education but what to do – this is tread. If we refuse to give then sure our work will suffer.

What does your values tell you to do?
If bribing is against your values, and you actually do it....what precedence will you be setting?
Does your company speak of honesty and Integrity as its values?
If it does, then taking the right decision should not be a problem.
I am sure that there is a right way to do things, it may take a bit longer, but its worth it...
If you pay now, you will have to pay again and again..and by the way you are no longer a victim of the system, but you become the culprit..
If you want it to be done right...get your papers straight....if you are being harrassed because you did not pay up..then you always have the police, the anit corruption bureau and RTI(which I prefer)
I am also amazed at the answers given by some who suggest that bribing is the only option, I ask them...What is the difference between you and the corrupt politicians, babus and goons....

To justify your stand if you do not agree to bribery!
Speak of your values....
Check if your companies values Integrity..
If your company has already bribed in the past or is secretly known to take on corrupt measures...then either you put a halt to it..or you leave the company...
In the end the decision will fall on you? How big a PERSON do you want to be?
