Hi,

It is a natural inclination of human beings to get attracted to more good looking people. All that about beauty can be seen in various ways is all apart from the straight fact that human beings will get attracted to more good looking people. It is not disturbing ..... it is a fact.

To answer your point about 'do members of HR, in fact take beauty into consideration'? There are companies who will hire candidates only with a certain image. Why? May be the HR is not looking for beauty but they will always go for the smarter looking person.

And Ravi is clown. I went to see who this person is making a joke in all serious forums of discussion and what do I see? Chats with ladies only:-D
And then he complains about brains and beauty... while probably he hired half of those ladies himself.

The finding is true to some extent in the sense certain companies prefer smarter people for certain roles but again beauty & smartness r used by many as sides of the same coin. But the truth remains that while beauty can give you the first break but to prove oneself hardwork & dedication is required & there is no alternative of that.

:!:Here the study does not suggest that beauty is superior than brain. It just says that Brain with Beauty win the tug of war.
:idea:Thus beauty is an added advantage. If (and only if) two persons have "equal brains" then of course beauty will be a determinant of success- be it higher pay, promotions or even selection in interview.

I personally think this thing is hyped too much.
Why do not we consider a case?
Lets say girl/boy goes for an interview in BPO/KPO.
Can we really say that he/she might be hired only if the looks are considered?
The answer is Implied NO.
In the same, for the crew of Airlines (Airhostess/Steward) looks are extremely important but now there are exceptions too. There are airhostes who are bit plumpy but they have been hired because of their complexion, personality and hospitality attitudes.
So with this we can partially conclude that the job profile and the industry defines the priority of looks, the skills and the brains.
I hope this has answered the querry bit effectively.

Zalak Dave.

Beauty is not bestowed on everyone but what is in the hand of a person is grooming. I have come across many people in my life who are not gud looking as such but have developed good personalities and well groomed.
I think everyone should focus on grooming. Even a very beatiful girl who is badly groomed is not impressive.
Moreover a personality and confidence to match that.
To me...............confidence is very beautifull.

beauty /good looks may count a bit but end of the day if there is no intelligence good looks do not work. in my opinion a presentable personality counts more then good looks. no one is ugly it depends on the person how they make themselves look good. apnay aap main confidence hona chaheya

This is one of the most debated topic in recruitments i must accept quite naturally for the all the wrong reasons. Must admit that being an HR Manager i do quite naturally look for the X factor in all the candidates who we interview and X factor necessarily means the confidence one must convey in their communication, their attitude, their presentation which includes how well one is groomed, the way one carries and presents himself or herself overall. The one who possesses all these attributes always stand a good chance for getting through. In the long run i've seen most of these candidates being successful in their work. There have been times when we come across people who might look very promising but then may be of no good use. So why categorise? and by the way it is proven that when you look good you are definetly confident; above all the most important thing is to believe in yourself that you are good! That's the difference people who believe in themselves are the most confident of the lot..... and they are the most sought out guys in the industry.

Hum, BEAUTY,ATTRACTION,BRAINS......ARE ALL RELATIVE AND PERCEPTIVE. What is beatiful, attractive to A may not be the same withB.dEFINITELY WE CAN NOT GENERALISE. How beauty was defined in research is not clear. Was mother teresa beautiful or attractive? Is squint eyed, simple Infosys narayanamurthy attractive?
If you come to career aspect,as i have seen in my 34 years of service,be it be upsc officers or private sector officials at all levels, beauty is not the main criterion for success. It may be a bonus only for shorter tenure.
again, whether beauty and attraction one and the same.Ex, a lady superviser in an office was attracted by my voice. There are so many things in a person for attraction and definitely not beauty.Otherwise, everybody should like ishra....I repeat it perception.I also say, if somebody is appointed by an employer only on looks, well, they in for danger.
Anyway this a ver debatable issue.I can quote many examples people who are proud of looks and behave to kill otr think they can rule the world, they are wrong.Perception of beauty should be form the pure conscience lest it becomes lustily vulgar.

rider,.. somre of my comments have nothing to do with original thread and is only additional input. remember it is again my perception
