Dear Asha,
I had implemented this successfully in my company. Please seek Management approval as one of cost saving initiative and then release a circular to all concerned regarding implementation for the same. But do not deviate for anyone irrespective of hierarchy.
In today's scenario, if there is cost saving is happening, due to any kind of changes you get Mangement approval very easily. Biggest hurdle is Management because they have to change themselves a lot for this:-P. But slowly and gradualy you will succeed.

Neha,

Forget about every thing. You need to concentrate on only one thing here. Does the use of security personnel disrupt his job severely? I mean, was this necessary?

There are many more things to have frictions with management about. As your organization grows, you will have more and more important rules to establish. Is it worth being queen of Jhansi for such a minor thing?

It is your call really. Just think about it.

Dear Neha,
your action to prevent security boy from doing the job of office boy is appreciable...security boy should however be told to do his duty first and he should also be aware that he should not be leaving his position during office hours and attend to staffs inside the office.. however to make this applicable you will have to explain this to your seniors and old employees. Do take a ratification from your report head or boss on the action that you are taking so that it will be easier for your to answer back....Admin will be solely responsible if there is a security glitch and this responsiblity no one will share - so your action is justified.
As per Mr Umesh - his second option should also be taken into consideration.. Unlearning a very difficult to process, but you should be able to do it....best wishes,
