Dear All,
We want to arrange a training session for our sales force to perform well during recession. They are worried about the how to keep up the targets during the market slowdown, worried about salary cuts and job security which is inturn effecting their performance. We would want to impart training which would help them manage themselves and perform. Please suggest me some modules which I can work on.
Warm Regards,

From India, Delhi
Hi Shruti, I would be interested to know that are you to conduct this training inhouse or by some external vendor. Naveen
From India, Delhi
Dear Naveen, We have our internal trainers who can conduct the training for the employees. Warm Regards, Shruthi

Dear Bhavana,
Thank you so much for the inputs. We have saturday events once a month where all the employees come together and participate in various competetions and we have prizes for them.
As you rightly said appreciation letters would work out. Till now we did not have any such letters being given to them. we used to only have "Performer of the year" awards.
We have internal softskill trainers who can help us in training employees. However i am confused as in what are the contents to be included so as to have an effective training for the sales team. Could you please suggest me on the same?
Warm Regards,

From India, Delhi
I guess more than run a training programme you should have a workshop or open house where employees should be given info on the company strategy to tackle recession. If there is no idea on how it can be done in the top how can the sales force have an idea.

Before you actually practice this thing........ you should take the senior management in confidance...... It should not be like you are giving training on "How to survive in Recession" and the top management is planning to cut your pocket or fire employee....... Then it will be counted as a negative practise............. So be careful.......
Otherwise it will be a good iniciative........

Hi Shruthi,
Greetings of the day!!
If your sales team is not very sure and insecure about achieving targets and performing well, the first thing you should do as HR is too soothe their nerves.
You should suggest your top management/CXOs to address the sales force or the comapany in general about how the company is coping with recession. This open communication would go a long way in soothing the harried nerves of your Sales team and would help them perform much better when they are aware of what the management thinks.
After that the various modules that you can work on are:
- Objection Handling during recession
- Customer Relationship Management
- Team activities to foster team spirit
- Corporate Etiquettes

Dear Anuradha and Daleep,
Thank you so much for the inputs.
As Daleep said training on How to survive recession could be on a negative end if Mangement is thinking of cutting the pockets. As you know, we would not have any control on this due to the market condition.
Our motto is to try our level best to still keep the morale of our employees high. One of the initiative is training. As Bhavana said, i would also proceed with identifying monthly best performer. As Anuradha said Workshop on company's strategy to tackle recession could also be done.
However, i am facing problem in deciding the contents for the training.
Warm Regards,

Dear Ranjit,
Thanks a ton!!! Your sugessions on modules would help in coming up with a plan before approaching our softskill training division. We are also thinking to plan a session where CEO address the entire sales force accross India.

Hello. Its a nice plan, wonder if many Organizations would think abt it.
I guess you need to focus on the following:
Address on the current activities of your company, performance, where it is placed in the market - just give an overview about the current condition of your company
Many of the companies have shut down and lay off has been the buzz word, but your company will want to send the message "perform and reap the benefits"
- For this you need the Management to highlight the areas of business opportunity and suggest a few methods on innovative strategies to cope with the situation (also give examples)
- Also, mention how each and everones responsibility has been increased and how the company now requires a hand from everyone, be it even if its the most wierd thoughts - it can still turn as an opportunity. So have an exericswe for this as a brainstorming session where in people can bring in ideas (no one will crticize others views - its just plain flow of ideas), what they think can be considered as a strategy for improving performance
- the person with the most innovative thinking will be acknowledged by the Management (so pls give them atleast 15 - 20 mins to think, probably after a session is delivered in boosting their confidence and how the Management feels they can survive with the availability of the Best Talent)
- Basically this session would be more of motivating and leveraging trust in the employees. For which - just a mere statement would not help. You could take each sales person's performance in the past and mention their best achievement, which is still remembered by the Management. In this way - they are sure that their actions were acknowledged, and any contribution would only brighten their image.
- Also, to avoide issues in performance feedback, let them know that they are monitored for better performance and suggesting areas where they can try a bit more harder - not to just be an average performer, but an exceptional performer
- Your company has to take advantage of recession, and perform when others avoid risks. There is no success without pain and risk.
At the end - your company is not looking at just surviving, its making use of the recession faced by others too, and also emerging as the strongest of all when things get back to normal. Its not survival - its about - being the visible when everyone has been blacked out.]
Its not in performance - its in exceptional performance
I have just gisted what you could work on - under each have a session that covers areas that would basically a) Motivate them b) Let them know teh Management trusts them c) Let them know that the management still expects from them, keeping in mind also the challenges involved - not because they are not realistic, but becuase they believe in their members and their talent :-)
Hey Good Luck!
