Try to get rid of this type of organization where you do not have any authority. But do not leave the organization till you get the new job. Regards, Digpal

Dear Ratna,
as everybody said that you need to change your organization, I feel that they are right from their point of view.
One more suggestion - By the time you change the job, do whatever your boss says. If instructions are wrong, he'll automaticaly fall back. :)

Sunita,
In some organizations we found this scenario. it is not totally the mistake of the management also they might have burnt their fingers earlier by delegating the authority or else they may be that kind of people. If all the directors are behaving like this there might be some major issue and it will be difficult for you to bring a chnage in the organization. You tried your level best to bring a cultural change in the organization and it seems that nothring is working hence it's better you change the organization otherwise you will be adopted to that culture and spoiling your career.
Thanks and regards - kameswarao

Hi Ratna,

I wonder what made them hire you. May I ask your responsibilities that they described before hiring you?

Anyways, its very clear that its an owner driven company. Change can take place but it should be thru a source that can convince the Directors.

I believe that at this point the business handled is quite less, so that they have time to involve themselves in other matters that are not related to their CORE activity

OR

The ability to Manage / or do business is lacking because may be it was a family run Organization. in such situations everyone involve in the matters ogf the business, and they feel that even the smallest thing must be under their control.

OR

They dont have a clear vision for the business, and teh directors are not clera of the respnsibility. They may be thinking of profits, but not profits to be gained...but they are thinking of internal profits :-)

What I could ask u again is...what was the role described to you when you were hired? May I know how many years of experience you possess? What was ur previous experience?

See if you'd have any chances of changing the mindset of the Sr. Management, quitting can be considered a second option. Is there a mentor who frequently discusses with the Directors?

Please understand that this experience will only be a leraning epx for you. Dont be disappointed. Wait for a while and see if the DIrectors are willing to even listen towhat you have got to say - like instead of saying directly that they are involved in checking stationery stock, or oher small things, tell them you will take charge of checking it and take care of administration (these are baby steps to see if they are willing to delegate from the least impt tasks..).

If nothing seems to be going ok, then pls look out for an opportunity with a company that can manage and foster ur creative thoughtss :-)

sunitha,
Don't get frustrated. well... i came to know that there is no importance for HR in your company. you will not find any career growth in this type of org. I think they are not much bothered about employees too. So look for a change in your job. And before leaving( after geting all the required documents in your hand) tell them the reason why r u leaving. And don't leave this job till u get an offer in ur hand.

Hi S. Ratna,
I can understand ur emotions as I have already faced excatly the same situation in my previous organisation. Dont get disheartened. Do search for a nice job after that u can leave this job. 2ndly,I wuld like to know how long r u working over there? Bcz as a HR person u must be knowing that stability is a basic criteria for a d next job change. May be if u leav ethis organisation after ur few months of joining then it may be difficult for u in d interview.
So in short i wuld like u suggest the following:-
1) If u r there for more that 6 months or so then look for a job change,
2) Even if u find the situation too frustrating then stay there, look for a nice job and then leave the present job.
BUT DO KEEP IN MIND THE AVAILABILITY OF JOB DUE TO RECESSSION.
All d best.

pankaj is absolutely correct,
basically such kind of companies are not worth to even exist which cannot respect the dignity of employees and able to manage them with honour.
This is gross violation of Human Rights and this is inhum treatment and very much uncivilised company with uncivilised owners. These people needs a HR manager like me who can tought lesson how to behave and respect other human beings.
These people think that once they employed someone they can treat his as slaves and these slaves has no dignity or self respect.
I kick many such employers in mylife with police complaints and filing complaints in Labour Commissioners through advising fired employees behind curtain I was fighting by giving advises to employees of my companies who has been victmised by such Lala Directors and they share there frustration with me in person and I used to enjoy their frustration because I was one who did all mischeaves to them.

hi, was apalled to know the situation in your company! Howcome things have come to such a pass. You can give it a last try.Organise the really crunch issues which the employees want to convey to the directors.Put it down in writing and officially put it up to the Directors. U can do so in your capacity as HR head.If it does not work, its time to leave!A good company has set out drills and procedures and the powers and responsibilities of each person are clearly cut out.In such companies the HR has certain powers and tremendous responsibilities.Look for these indicators before taking the decision to join another company
