Hi

I got 3+ yrs of exp in HR and working for a Telecom company for the past 2 yrs and in these 2 years on and off HR Manger postion was vacant -twice HR Manager was appointed but with in 5 to 5 moths again it used to get vacant and recently our Mgmt. hired a Asst Mgr - HR.

Though functionally i report to Director - HR and much work is not with Asst. Mgr. and i also never felt like reporting to him because i found him non creative, and he lacks any innovation, soft skills are not so good and is having negative punch .

when we were recurting a jr HR i has asked him to take a male collegue since our dept is having lot of females and i need a male collegue to have more comfort in terms of talking , sharing and after office hours we can bond .etc. and he wantedly took a female HR and he said since we don't get a good male candidate of lesser sal that whu we had gone for a female candidate - the candidate

he took was having 2+ yrs for 10k sal who had worked with a clothing show room for 1+ yrs and for small oracle product related software company for another 1+ yrs .

( This has clearly Proved that he was not a good HR guy and in Hyd 2+ yrs for <10 K is easlily available. ) - I never showed any kind of hatered signs.

recently i was sitting with one of the HOD and he showed me the mail what this Asst. Mgr-HR had sent to all the managers and above and he put a cc to another HR exe. and that mail was never addressed to me eventhough it was a group mail content being "Delegation of work".

This thing has happened twice where he had wantedly ignored to send me mails but he had sent to all jr people even though i am a Sr. HR - Exe.

I had started observing that i am being ignored in lots of dept. matters and i come to know all this matters only through other depts. which i guess is not good.

Whenever i send a group mail i ensure thet he receives it.

I think he is playing a Polictics - What I have to do ?

Shall i start looking for new job ? or inform the same to our Director - HR.

For this case study -(real )

plz send me your inputs suggestions etc -based on this need to take few decisions.

Dear Vinay,

The reason why he choose a female candidate maybe personal to him other than that not findinig a HR exec for <10k, if she is not able to proove herself after a period of 6 mnths then your Asst HR Mgr will definitely have to justify this hiring to the top mgt and that will definitely not be in his favour.

If she is competent and cooperative, carries herself well personally and professionally then I don't think you should have any trouble at all working with her.

Now the reason why a male was not hired as far as I can think because your Asst Mgr might have thought that you 2 guys can be a threat to him.And the fact that you already shared with him that you need someone to speak with and bond with during office hrs and after officve hrs might have afftected his judgement.

But I don think that if you DO NOt have any male colleagues, you should have trouble speaking with the female employees, you can speak with them.Anyhow comming to the main problem

If you are not receiving the males marked to everyone but you, pls bring this under you Asst Manager's attention directly atleast once.

You should request him directly to mark a copy of the mail to you as well, to do this tactfully you can ask one of the HR Exec to whom the mail was marked CC in fornt of your Asst Mgr and ask her to forward the mail to you.

Try this doing 3-4 days and If next time this thing happens pls discuss this directly with your Director/VP HR but that an extreem action.

Maybe your Asst. Mgr is insecure about the fact that you are wrking there for past 2 yrs and furthermore you report directly to the Director HR.

You should try to build bridges with him, try to put an effort to be on friendlier terms with your Asst Mgr first instead to burning all ties from the start.Try to know his likes/dislikes.Try to help him on any offical matter where you know he is facing problems, you have to take the initiative.Take his advice on certain matters where you know he has the knowledge and experience even if you DO NOT put those advices in action.

I am sure in time he'll learn to respect you and see you as a valuable asset rather than threat.

If he keeps up his negative tactics then you always have the option to discuss this matter with your Director HR but keep this option as a last resort.

Best of Luck.

warm regards

Sourabh
