Hello Friends,

I am working as an HR for past 9 months in a software co. which has a strength of 30-35 employees.
I have been stressing the management for employee id cards which are not provided, as the management does not feel the need and also as the attendance system is not linked with it.
but i still feel that an organisation even though small, calling itself a company, should provide its employees with id cards as it is a proof ( for the employee - that he/she is really working in the company) and hence i am stressing my management for the same.
Can anyone help me in giving solid and valid reasons apart from the one i have stated as to why an company should have for its employees id cards?
becoz whatever reasons i state before management they have a reason to refute it.Some reasons that i have given are:

1.if employees stay in office long mid night hours Police may interrogate him while he/she in return in midnights from office where ID card is a good purpose to show that he engaged in office works
2.Employee Id cards mostly useful for opening bank accounts/Mobile connection/etc
3.The ID Cards, signifies the employee branding and his respect in the work culture they work for.

Is there any Indian Law or Act specifying necessity of providing id card to employees?
Hoping for some replies which will help me counter my dilemma......pls help......

Dear Varsha,
Employee card is must for employees for various reason like, attendance/ decipline/ verifications/ address proof etc but its not mandatory for attendance purpose for an small organization but they can provide the id cards for marketing purpose because to my knowledge its cost effective marketing solution fo small organizations.
just imagine a staff wearing ID cards going to different places, people see your company name, by seeing some of them may ask your company profile etc etc.,
some of the companies even provide t-shirts/ caps for your information.

Varsha..... I strongly beleave the company has to provide the ID cards for the employyess might its small or big.. Its a mandatory too. I hope thier is a Indian Law or Act specifying necessity of providing id card to employees.....

Thanks nataraj, awaiting your reply eagerly....i went thru Bombay shops and establishment act in this regard.
Also our company is a Us based co- its registered office is in US and R & d n Sales takes place in India office so unsure whether Indian acts be applicable....hoping to hear from you soon, Thanks:icon1:
