Hi Honey, A person should first learn about self before deciding on a particular career or deciding to switch jobs. He/She should know what to ask depending on his/her capability. Give some time to self and assess the career options, current job and self personality. You could probably have some made up questions and then list the answers. These might look kiddish or school kinds, but believe me it is worth it.

1. What are your 5 principal areas of interest?

2. Have these interests been satisfied in your career?

3. What are 5 areas in which you have acquired high skill levels?

4. Have you used these skills in your career to an acceptable degree?

5. List any 2 kinds of activities for which you have a strong aptitude?

6. Have these activities been part of your jobs [previous/current] ?

7. List your 2 most dominant personality traits?

8. Have past/current positions offered a comfortable fit with these traits?

9. What would be an acceptable earnings level at this stage in your career?

10. Has this level of earnings been achieved?

11. What are the 2 characteristics of the work environment that are most important to you?

12. Have these characteristics been present in past positions?

13. What are the 2 qualities or strengths you most value in yourself?

14. Have these qualities been recognized and rewarded in your workplace?

15. Have these qualities been consistent with the type of work you have performed?

16. What are 2 areas in which you would like to increase competence?

17. Have past jobs facilitated your development in these areas?

18. What are the 2 kinds of work activity you enjoy most?

19. Have past jobs centered on these activities?

20. Other than yourself, who will be most affected by your career change?

21. Are you moving toward a well-defined Career Goal, rather than away from an unpleasant situation?

22. What is your principal Career Goal?

These are some of the questions i could think of. Life becomes a lot more simpler when you have answered them.

Regards,

Soumya Shankar
