Total Quality Management is a concept that defines the quality assurance system that an organization will adopt to manufacture quality consistently. The production process, methods and procedure of doing things are specifically explained to the employees so that each employee use and adopt the same work practice to enhance the quality in the product. At the same time the product quality parameters are also described. The concept assures not only the quality of the product but also ensures the cost consciousness, delivery, higher productivity, customer satisfaction and safety of employees.

5S is a concept that helps to change the work habits at the place of work by way of improving cleanliness. 5S are the five Japanese words that begins with the English alphabet S; these words are Siri (Sorting), Seton (Systematize), Siso (Cleanliness), Siketsu (Standardize) and Sitsuke (Self-discipline and Training). The concept emphasize that there are three types of work places: the third class work place is that place where everyone is throwing waste all around and no one is cleaning, the second rated work place is that one where most are throwing waste but few are cleaning and the first class work place is that place where everyone is maintaining the work place always and none is throwing the waste. The concept helps to improve efficiency, productivity, waste/ cost reduction, safety and improve the quality standards.

Kaizen means continuous improvement at place of work: thus it means improving work methods or working systems to improve productivity, cost management, quality etc. The concept says the innovations are done once in a while whereas the improvements at regular intervals bring the fruitful results with consistent efforts of the teams.

Just in Time is another concept mostly applicable for Materials/Purchase Department. The concept helps to reduce the inventory levels. Thus the teams plan in such a way to buy the material within the given lead time.

The Human Resource Department plays a vital role in implementation of the concepts.
1. Create awareness and impart training to all the employees
2. Create the teams of different Zones.
3. Enhance the in-house competitiveness by introducing the motivational schemes.
4. Help the Production and Quality Departments to maintain the records of all the schemes.
5. Initially assist the organization to prepare the systems and then by involving people implement the concepts.

Majority of the organizations are unable to reap the benefits of the concepts because either the HR have not been involved or the HR has not played the role fully.
In case you have more questions please feel free to write.

The other subjects I will try to reply soon.
