Hi Am a masters student doing Hrm as a specialization. I am having a great amount of difficulty comming up with a research question. My idea is to do something on succession plannig, Human resource advantage and retention and how they impact a firms competitve advantge. I seem to be spinning in circles as to how to go about making this a sensible topic. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Only a rigorous review of literature can help to in identifying the topic for research based on your inclination. It can not be dictated by your guide. You follow the methodology of lead studies, making embellishments here and there. If primary data can not be accessed due to paucity of time, you can rely on secondary data. Both for review of literature and secondary data. The internet is a boon which can be used to the maximum. All the best.

Thanks Patrick for the advice. I have been saying the same thing over and over again. Students seem to "put the cart before the horse"as the saying goes. They would like a title, objectives, etc without conducting RLR.
