Dear All, We are an IT company in Dellhi , we lost an employee few days back. Should we declare holiday on the day the employee passed away...?? What else could be done to for Condolence? Need Suggestions....Urgently.
Dear Bhavna My condolences on the Death of your employee What happens in my company is that, we normally inform the enmployees of the death that has occurred. We also mention the details regarding the place and time of the rituals that are being conducted We send flowers and a condolence msg to the family of the deceased. A holiday is only declared in the event of an owner of a company dying. This works in my company coz we are an old-age family owned company For modern day companies only accoutnable to shareholders I dont think it can apply In addition we hold a get-together in the office where the supervisor/HOD says something about that employee and a 2 minute silence is observed in their honor/respect I hope this helps
My deep condolences to the family of your employee. As our practice here in the company, we give the family of the employee a Bereavement Assistance, we also send flowers and if time permits we also visit the wake to personally meet the family. Do you have insurance plans for your employees? Carmie
Normally the Head of the organization, the HR representative will attend the rituals, in some of the companies they will bear the funeral expenses. A condolence message will be displayed on all the notice boards, a 2 mint mourning will be observed at an assembling point where all the employees will be present over there. In some cases some amount will be paid by the company to the spouse, in some organizations the employees will contribute one day salary or as per their financial status will pay and the company will also contribute equal amount and the cheque will be deposited in the name of the children. In some cases if the families finacial position is not good then there is every possibility of offering an employment to the spouse. All the senior people will visit his house. Other than the above what are the legal / statutory benefits will be pursued and ensure they recieve the same, this HR will take the responsibility. In some companies where they have House magazines etc they will put all the details with a photo with small message. Thanks and regards - kameswarao
My condolenses for the family of the peson who passed away. What the company can do best is provide financial support or employment opportunities for either spouse or children. A two minute silence prayer is dedicated for the persons soul to rest in peace. I know a company I completed my internship program from. Its a manufacturing unit and what they do is - Provide financial assistance for the persons family through company. If the financial needs are very strong then everyone collects some amount within department and provide it to the family as a token of love. Else, they provide an amount for education of the children, or provide employment opportunities. Its actually based on the need of the family and they have no particular standards on this. I asked the reason and they mentioned that: this would help the existing people understand that we care for them more than employee-employer relation. They are members of our family. They also plant and dedicate a tree in memory of the person (the persons name is carved near a rock next to the plant, as IN LOVING MEMORY OF ------- (DOB - DOD) Thanks

My deep condoleces to the family members. Group Gratuity policy will serve the best in such time. Every one had suggested lot. Very good. Thanks. Pandurang More
Heartfelt condolonces! By declaring holiday nothing is going to happen. Instead have a condolence meeting and 2 minutes silent prayer. If the employee needs financial support you could solict support from employees for contribution and donate to the family. You could also institute an award in the name of the employee on what ever he/ she was good at. Hari
