Sonia,
In the current economic scenario, I guess mostly the companies would be maintaining the same salary nos of the year 2008. And try to reduce the operational cost which is basically cost management. The companies mya try to reward the outstanding and exemplary performers in some different way may be.
I am from an IT company and dont see any hikes here :-(

Dear Sonia,
The salary hikes in IT firms currently depends upon majorly the kind of business they are having that is what would be the net earnings and profits as well as number of employees apart from the perfomances of employees.
Some companies have decided NOT to give any salary hikes to cope up market downturn, some have asked their employees to take a salary cut so as there should not be any layoffs, where as some are offering a hike of 7% to 15%, saying that 15% hike will be awarded to employees who have performed exceptionally well in their area of expertise.
For Sales force their performance appraisal would be directly result of the targets achieved and businesses retained and acquired for the parent compnay.Generally they have a percentage in their salary structure for financial targets achieved during the previous year.
For Admin and Finance the hikes should be again 07%-15% based on their output, effectiveness and productivity.
warm regards

First Try To Save the Jobs Then Think Of Increments.... Cost Of Living Will Go Down As It Was Artificially And Abnormally Gone Up During Past Two Years As Inflation Goes Down Salaries Also To Be Proportionately Reduced Because Real Value Of Job Has Also Gone Down.
Market Correction Takes Place In All Speres Of Economics Hr Is No Difference.
Indian Market Job Price Will Goes Down In Next Two Years By 50% Because It Was Influenced By The Demand And Supply During Corrosponding Period Of Market Economic Boom.

Sonia,
The real situation to feel is to stick with the job and than think about the salary hike. As many of the IT people are thinking about Layoff and firing. So there will be no hike may be a decrease is possible in this downturn.
