It's better to show it as a consultant fees and later you will manage the tax for that period separately.

And as you are working as a consultant from home, and hopefully you will continue a part of it, then you may definitely look for your PC protection. If so, please consult below.

Data Terminator is specially developed to protect confidential data files from being accessed by a stranger.
Data Terminator permanently deletes selected files from your computer if your PC is no longer under your control.
Main Features:
Deep File Termination
We are using the most reliable data termination algorithms, so the stranger doesn't have any chance to recover deleted files
Ability to remotely control multiple computers

Advanced Privacy Protection
In case your remote PC can't access the Internet and you can't terminate your files remotely, your confidential data is still protected! Data Terminator can be programmed to delete pre-selected files automatically, so stranger can’t access them!

If ur prev company has given you any letter may be like retainer letter, in that case you can show the proof of your income and you can discuss that the nature of your work was such that you were working from home.

Mahesh

Dear Rakhishahgupta,

If you had been appointed as consultant the TDS applicable is 10.3% (considerably lower than that of regular employees). You will be issued form 16A (TDS certificate) at the end of financial year from the Company/Firm that you have been serving. (You can file your returns and claim refund of excess TDS deducted).

If you have now got into regular employment, you would need to furnish details of your previous earnings (in consulting) during the relevant financial year. Only then can your existing employer calculate your amount of tax on your salary of 75K correctly. Alternately, if you do not furnish them with your earning details, they will have to presume that you "officially" has no earnings before joining them. Your tax deduction then may be considerably lower (though, with the salary quoted by you, you will automatically fall into the highest slab bracket of income tax, i.e. 33.99% including surcharge & edu. cess). Remember to also give your investment details for appropriate tax exemptions for your benefit.

If, however, your consultant earnings were not based on any paper agreement/contractual terms in writing and you got paid other than officially declared income to you, you may well nigh escape tax (though it is illegal).

Rahul
