One of my friend could not get through his Campus interview. He feels dejected. He is wondering why he failed while some of his classmates with similar percentile were offered job. Having failed in the campus what is the way out for him. What should he do to improve his chances of getting a good job.

Hi G Mukundhan
I want to say one thing 2 ur Friend that dont feel regret....learn from ur failure and dont see the negative aspect of ur failure ........forget it...nd prepare ur self for next opportunities.......and In last I want 2 say a famous quote of Raboin Sharma...
"When one door closes another opens. But we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we fail to see the one that has opened for us "

Getting selected in a campus recruitment is not only the matter of percentage. Recruiters looks for people who will have an easy transition from the campus to the workplace in the company. The entire profile of the candidate must match. There is hardly any reason to feel dejected in this because you may get rejected on account of being overqualified also.
To get successful in campus recruitment, the applicants must research the company thoroughly before appearing in the interview, especially about the organization culture. The best source is to get in touch with the senior batch students already working in that company.

Dear Student,
Now a days, it is a regular incident at the campus where the student who got selected in the campus interviews got so much polularity that the other who are actually not rejected but were not suitable for the job profile of the specific job. There is a psycological pressure called "Peers Pressure".

Your friend seems to be so much hurt about the process that he is unable to look back his capabilities. For most of the MBA students, the final selection or getting a job is a more turbulent. There is no need to compare under any circumstances. Though there are suitable ground for comparison, the more we will compare we will feel more down.

Here are some immediate remedial measures -
- Check whether the total placement process is over or not?
- In case there are more companies to come, start preparing for them.
- Join the company of some positive minded student and not those who provok your failure more.
- reassess your capabilities
- spent some time on internet, surf some job related sites which will gradually generate confidence among you.
- There are some reputed companies who expects individual regsitration of students...you register there
- Have an option of some alternative sector which you will feel comfortable to work.
- Strictly, Don't calculate your capabilties with high salary package only.
- Every students has equal potentials to get selected..and beleive you will get a job surely...
- only thing is you have appear for every interview with equally commitment
- Can you please spend some time in a brain storming session with some of your close freinds about the areas to be worked upon.

In case, still there are some more queries , we are waiting........

greetings to all participated in this thread,
solutions given to this thread are merely superb!!! i my self was MBA with HR specialization of 2008 passed out and hardly i find a few jobs in my core area where i was rejected at the final stages but i know my capabilities(also weak in particular areas ) and i have taken assistance from my lecturers and worked my self and now i got placed in an international school as management trainee in admin department. but the thing i want u to tell is dont give up ur hopes let it be high. dont compare ur self with others. here in the industry there are no. of opportunities where ull find if u check with an KOOOL attention MIND.
clearly industry wants people with skill sets what they require but not the percentile or any other thing...

hi frnd, d prob u have stated is not an uncommon one. i should tell u dis 1st: u know how d mkt situation is now. so many companies refused to come for campus.. still 1 big company was ready to come and that too with a very big package(atleast big for my coll). we were so hpy. b4 coming they asked for the students details n resumes. our placement centre officers had sent. but b4 coming to our campus, they shortlisted 4 candidates n only they were allowed for d 1st round.. we were shoked.. we dont even know d reason for wat we were rejected.... the 4 were of diff backgrounds(2 had exp 2 didnt, 1 from b.tech, 1 from bio tech, 2 from b.com UG backgrouns).. we didnt know the reason at all. but now i feel that i am lucky not to have been shortlisted for that company.. coz i am placed in a company with good pay n designation.. watever u loose is for gud only..

ask ur frnd to note this:

--> never never associate percentiles with jobs(many 5 pointers are gud at work than 8 pointers)
--> wen a company does not select u, its not that u dont have the potential. it means that ur qualifications n other skillsets of urs does not match with the profile.. its just that its not ur kind of job/company
--> try giving examples wherever possible (dat got me d job:wink:)
--> show them u r confident n not nervous
--> act like ur own self.. pls dont pose artificially..
--> if any of the interview panel members tease u(must be stress interview), have a smiling face(tease back if u can).. in my interview, one member was teasing me with my own words. i stood strongly by my words n i teasd him back n other members started laughing. i should say that i impressed them at that moment. coz after the results were announced the panel congradulated me privately.. so dont get tensed when u r tested for stress
--> tell them u dont know the ans when u dont know. plz dont blabber..
--> tell the word "sorry" wen u r sorry for something. its important to accept u r wrong wen u r!!
--> ask them for the answers and ask them thier explanations. show them that u r ready to learn from any1 n anytime.(wen i did my proj, i did the recruitment for a week in 1 company n they alloted marks for that attitude)
-->pls dont throw ur attitude b4 the panel. dont show ur superior attitude b4 the panel. not all will accept it.

this what i have learned from my exp.. hope dis will help..

Dear Mr.Mukundan,
while attending the Campus interview, students also should know some interview ethics....
1. Please prepare about the interview if its technical, be strong in your technical terms and jargons. If its non technical, be strong in your comunication. Because now a days many companies prefers technical person even he is having moderate communication. But if it callcentre or some marketing companies, the students must have good communication. But now a days many software companies also expecting good communication even the candidates good in technical part.
Before attending the interview every one should follow this...
1. PROPER DRESS CODES (LITE COLOR SHIRT/ STRIPED SHIRTS/WITH NEATE IRONED PANTS)
2.PROPER COMBED HAIRS.
3.KNOWING SOME THING ABOUT THE COMPANY PROFILE, TURNOVER, BRANCHES...Why because in the time of interview they may ask the question like what you know about our company.
with regards.
