Hi everybody,
I have a couple of questions I am hoping you all can help me with. i am an MBA student completing my course by this month, my specialization is HR.
Is all the activities dealing with HR in an organizations are going by what we have read in the theory or it has a difference in practice. while i was talking with a personnel officer of a manufacturing organization, i was amazed to here that the HR department works only to decrease the number of employees in that company. can you please tell me what is happening particularly in your industry.

hi i am harsh ....i am doing my mba from nagpur , i am 23 years old and i am in 2nd sem...my specialisation subjects will be marketing and hr.....so ....

"is practical related with theory"............i will say....yes....

1} practical means to prove theories....to test them actually and then to analysis, where it actually lies in practice...

2} theory are the conclution from practical then again practical comes and then theory.....so this is a cycle.....for example...

1) a thought/plan in the mind put on paper........theory

2) test according to that plan.........practical

3) analysis it and drawn conclusions..........theory

4) work on that plan......practical

5) analysis the result........and make assumptions....theory

so like wise ......we can say that ......first planning ......puts to theoritical phase then it practically proved and then it becomes theory.....

now....following are the factors which can change the above or make effect on above assumptions...........

1) your approach towards the particular thing.......

2) your expectations

3) internal and external factors

4) result of analysis

5) changes u want and changes going on

now in your assumption...." hr means to reduced the workforce"

this statement if we placed on the above framework...then we will get...

1) approach........is just a one side of a coin....

2) expectations......the total hr work.....and concentrating on only one aspect....its just a part of hr....to sort human resource.

3) factors.......this is senario where......u have adequate workforce....and of good efficiency.......and on the view of employer.....they belive in "total quality employment"....which results to ...

1) they are qualified and well trainned.......qualitataive basis.

2) they can work on behalf of approx....1:5 employee...

3) they can satified the needs....

4) that much will be sufficient for future also....as the human being is most flexible machine.....and can be updated most....

4) analysis result.........it is the current senario that the men is developing very fast and is being turned into multiworking machine very fast.........

5) this is not the change u want .......and above is the change going on....

hope i had made a valuable contribution to your requirments.......harsh

hi,

Even i am an MBA student from Institute for technology and management, doing majors in HR. Rightnow i am doing my summers ,So uptill now what i have come to know is that HR Practices that happen in corporate word is totally different . You have to react to the situation and act accordingly , but yes for acting sensibly and feaibly you need to have knowledge about the various theories, models and case studies .... just to refer as to what all is there . It is as if using your tools and techniques from a box of tools as and when required , learning to use the toold efficiently will come gradually ...

and yes cost cutting method is also one of the functions of HR ,,,, many companies study their own methods and take 2 to 3 years to come to some conclusion .

the other acttivities prevalent in the market are given in CHR. like

Training and development methods - could be finding new methods or study the effectiveness of the old methods.

recruitment- which includes a planning process.Job analysis

Performance evaluation - includes various theories ...

Talent management - a new concept to find out out the talent in the present employees and make use of it

and many more to go ...

hope u get a little idea

take care

hi,
when we see the world maximum management practices will vary a little or more from the practical. because we deal with human who are not same. each one vary from one to other inmany ways and points. esp HR and markleting will have more diversity from the practical and theory. but if we donot have the theory knowledge it is diffcult to understand the nunances of the practical too.
