Dear All,
I have just joined an IT firm and am heading the operations. This is my first stint with IT. I would invite suggestions from the members to let me know how to source IT candidates. Previously in this organization, recruitments are only done through job portals. Please suggest.

Dear Raj,
I agree with you..all I wanted to know was what would be the right kind of mix while recruiting.. as a portal can help you so much and no more..I mean the same profiles can be repeated etc etc and being in Chandigarh, I have a market constraint as the pool of IT candidates is not so strong and generally they all prefer moving to Delhi and other metro's.
Please suggest

Hi Nainz,
For sourcing profiles, you should try out a mix of ways, like using references, job portals u can use for accessing their database, as well as post an ad also.
Even though you are right that most of them would be interseted in moving to Delhi, but many would like to stay back also, specially if they belong to CHD, or nearby places, so target them and while searching in database of job portals u can very clearly filter your search limited to people who are local to CHD / Punjab and are looking for opportunities there.

Dear Sunaina
First search for all the consultants in Chandigarh, Usualy Consultants will have CVs which u may not find in the Job Portals,
Do a bit of Market Survey with the help of the consultants and find the available strength of Relevant Candidates in your place

Hi,
Surely as you have mentioned in your mail that Job portals are not much useful in small cities.
Placement agencies can be of help for sure, they generally have location wise information of the candidate.
What about head hunting?? Does your company approves this??
Many oganisation follow this trick in smaller places, but it requires a lot of skills and smartness.
Hope it will work for you.
Cheers!

Hi Sunaina,
One must have a mix of Job portals , Employee referrals (which are a very rich source ) and also the network one has built over time.
Since you are new to the IT industry you may Ideally start sourcing from Job portals or community networks. If your company has a Employee Referral Program you may cash in on the same.
Happy Hunting!!! :D

Dear Sunaina,
I agree with most on the forum that Consultants are the best way to source candidates. incase you want more details, we just organised a Summer Training Project in which students have studied the Recruitment, Selection & Retention process of IT companies throughout the country. this will help you get perfect details.
Call me on 9820522847 to know more.
