In our Company we have circular notice that wearing Helmet is Mandatory for those who are riding Motorcycle. But it is observed that so many employee are not wearing Helmet what should we do?

Make a conditioned policy.
firstly talk about the + ves of wearing helmet:-P
and then those who will be observed not wearing helmet will be charged fine of rs 100, and this amount would go into employee welfare fund.

JUST ADVISE THEM ON +VE BENEFITS OF HELMET iTS OF NOT UR PROB THEY WEAR IT OR NOT,, U DO UR JOB OF ADVISING THEM,,, BUT DONT DARE TO FINE, ITS NONE OF UR BUSINESS,,

Below are my cents
  • Don't let them park inside the company or parking area
  • Announce a policy that in case of any accident no inusrance claims would be done if found guilty
  • Warn, Fine & issue a warning letter and file in their personal file which can be tracked for future activities like appraisal (maybe or maynot)

Mr. Ravi - HR & company should care about their EE safety...but with rules n regulations in place...lets take a example....EE post office hrs is riding his bike without helmet n meets with accident n dies who will pay his hiers (answer couldbe insurance co)..if same incident happens frequently nxt year the insurance co. will charge u more as premium coz..we paid X amt as premium but claimed X+2 where insurance co. is at loss....if this is so are we adding or reducing cost to the organization.....and moreover if we step inside the company premises we need to adhere to the policies made by the comany which is profitable anyways (i am speaking about this one).....................
Its not of taking tensions its more bout avoiding it by being cautious....thr is nothing wrong in this

Hi Mr. Desai,


This is a common problem in every industry/organisation. We too had similar problem. It was not only the problem of people who were not wearing the helmet but also taking away others helmet while going!!! To tackle this, we did the following:
  1. Strict instructions were given to the security personnel not to allow any two wheeler driver to enter the factory without helmet.
  2. A worker without helmet can enter the factory only after paying a fine of Rs.10/- on first day and it is compounding till the 5th day. His name will be entered in a register for monitoring. Even if he does not come to the factory with helmet on the 6th day, he will not be allowed to park his vehicle inside the factory.
  3. Those who refuse to pay the fine ( or to avoid the word fine, call it as parking fees), can park his vehicle outside the factory/organisation and the safety of his vehicle entirely his look out.
  4. The amount collected is being used for getting biscuits etc., for the kids in the Creche.
  5. A person who does not wear the helmet while coming in will pay the fine and while going back in the evening will be asked to sign in the register kept just to avoid taking away of somebody's helmet.
The result of this procedure, believe me, today nobody enters the factory without helmet.

i feel that an awarness should be bought among the employees about the benefits of wearing the helmet....posters can be pined up on the notice boards....but as wearing an helmet is not directely related to employement so it is up to the employees weather they wear it or not.....if it is made compulsary then the employees may feel that they are forced to do something which is not directely related to their work......:razz:

First mention all the positive things.(ie; Safety for self, Security for Family etc):)
& also
Give Notice if anything happens wrong for not wearing helmets, they will not get any benefits from the company's side. :!:
Send all these notices to all the resident addresses. so that their family members also get aware of wearing helmets.
By concentrating on their families we can motive a person for wearing helmets

We have a policy of providing an additional amount of Rs1100/- other than salary to our employees who bring two wheeler provided that they submit their vehicle papers & DL.....
Wearing helmets for both driver & pillion is must in our co. for all employees & if in any case anyone of driver or pillion does'nt wear helmet while comimg or leaving the co, we deduct those 1100/- Rs as a penalty against violating the safety norms of co. for that month & issue a letter to him with a cc to his personal file.
After implementing this policy, Results have been seen very positive.
In starting we issue letter to few employees but now everybody follow the safety rules.
Hope it may help yo in some ways.

loook frnds it depends from city to city in my city even if u carry helmet in ur two wheeleer n not wear it, ur exempted by police,
so if a co in my city makes helmet compulsary , employees will just bring helmet, n not wear it,,
and u can just educate the employees,, and not force them,,,
plz understand upto what level u can go ,, n not just force anything on employees

wat u can do is tell ur security guy at the enterance of the building not to allow people who are not wearing helmet to enter the company premises irrespective of their designation in the company........trust me it will work for sure whn employees start missing there office because of this.the same rule is applied in my office also so u can also try it....

Dear
Wearing Helmet is compulsory in factory premises.
This is done through small steps.
Firstly discuss some of the major road accidents with empls;
Show one movie of road safety-avaialble in net.
Secondly give them options -arrange one helmet distributor who can provide helmet to employees with discounted rates in canteen or any factory premises.
After that not to fine any one, but could not allow to park inside the factory. this is a rule that every employee should strictly follow the rules & regulations of company, like safety shoes, helmets etc.
Give one week time to everybody to purchase helmets Instruct security officers not to allow anyone.
This gives a small reisistance from employees initially but after that they will definately praise you.

Good Suggestions,

I am sure it will help you nail this issue.
We had practical experience when one of the employee died due to head injury in accident. Insurance company first rejected the claim as person was not wearing helmet.
I agree with driving license checking also, another issue was person was not having valid driving license.
We have to actually take declaration from employees that they are following all these rules. Lastly, Our employee is our brand and asset. It’s a good initiative.
Such violation can cause harm to them as well to the company; financially and bad publicity.

Do not allow the employees to park their vehicle in the company premises/ parking. At the same time start sending mailers explaining the positve points of wearing helmet.

Section 129 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (referred in this reply as MV Act) imposes a condition on the Driver / rider of the motorcycle to wear protective head gear while riding in a public place.
Its compulsory and every one has to follow this law.

Dear Desai,
Make some strict rules and not only helmet is compulsory but also seat belts should be compulsory for car drivers. If top boses start driving cars with safety belts then others will follow them. Safety is a way of life it should be culture in your office
Rules could be
1) NO TA DA if found not following safety norms
2) NO Incentive for sales person if found not wearing helmets or seat belts
3) No DAily allowances for such persons
4) if coming to office without helmet or seat belt can send home on LWP
such strict rules have given results, please make proper policies on them, also make team who will keep a vigile on the same. team team members should be from top, middle & lower management

Hi,
In preliminary step; donít allow personnel vehicles inside the plant who will not wear the helmet.
After wards you can mark absent those persons who park their vehicle out side primises due to not available of helmet.

Possibly it work.

There should be a proper communication from the management representative to all employees on : implementation of helmet requirement and give 10-12 days time. Inform them as a concern (for their safety) and give guidelines : entry permitted inside our office premises for those who wear helmet, including pillion rider ! Otherwise security stops at gate, they have to park outside and possibility of risk to his bike from public and RTO for "wrong parking".
Fearing they will start wearing - later it will become a habit. Once they are habituated, they feel uncomfortable without a helmet !
Implement stage wise. An immediate change is not accepted always ! Take care ..

Make a policy: Allow only those employee’s vehicle inside the premises at parking lot, who wears helmet. Others without helmet has to park outside the premises.
