Hi,
I would like to suggest few things that I do in my organisation. These are:
1. HR Newsletter and PIC from verious dept. to contribute
2. Contests/ competitions e.g, Guess Who, Treasure Hunt, poem competition etc.
3. Create a Workplace Engagement Calendar for the whole year.
4. Change the Notice Board available into Workplace Engagement Board and paste new comers, events or happenings information (new baby delivered by our staff etc)
5. HR Weekly Bulletin (e.g. Vacancies, birthday for that week & other information)
Based on Engagement Survey held in my company, communication is the main issue that have highlighted. As such we have taken the above action.
Hope it helps you.
Cheers!

Hi nipuna,
I had actually conducted an employee engagement survey for my summer interns. In my Findings were few things which prove to be very simple but quite important like, hire the right employee and psychological contract should be communicated clearly and defined during induction, also building leaders to focus on meritocracy, job rotation and providing them a platform to pursue their hobbies and interest. Career plannin g, assistance with tax calculations and submissin of form, Recognizing professional as well as personal significant events, <link outdated-removed> assistance etc..
Hope this helped

nipuna,
there are other simple ways too
eg if a factory/ construction or any service cos starts day care facilities then they are engaging in the noble aim to "double the household income as females too can work" n subsequent very less attrition ie an upper hand over competition too.
similiarly by encouraging entreprenuership streak in employees, they are setting up future vendors/ customers...
ways are many but limited only by the philosphy of the promoters..
by hring freshers from rural areas and putting them through the grind for say next 1-2 years helps in bringing marginalsiaed communities in the mainstream of economy, rehabilitation of convicts etc.

Dear Bob Gately, That was a healthy and a prospective explanation. Again an appreciative one.
