Hi,
Everyone,
As I am member of CITE HR from last 1 year, I would say that I have sources most of the knowledge of HR from this site.
I am working as HR Executive for last 1 year. Recently I had joined new firm where HR department was not at all established & When I started composing HR Department slowly. I have prepared Guideline for the firm & submitted to our Executive Director. When He read the 1st page his reaction was my English is very horrible. I need advice how come i improve my English as well can anyone can help me to cross check my manual.
I agreed that quite possible I am from vernacular school after which I have persuaded my education in English. But still some mistakes we always fallow.
I am reading English newspaper, as well as I am reading English books. I am trying best from my side.
Or give suggestions for improving written English.
I await for positive reply from our senior members.

Dear Sarita,
First don feel sry for u, English is a language n not the knowledge and u knw no one speak English grammatically gud. I wud suggest u, compose any letter r document in simple english, ur aim shud be, frame sentences such that, it sud reach the reader/receiver, this is the mantra.
Sarita, to speak good english or any language u shud be very careful of three things, Pastense, Presentense and futuretense. Get to know basic grammar of english by book.
Learn new words, make a habit tat u shud learn 5 new words a week, u can use dictionary for this / read thursdays The Hindu paper (know your english column). Dont stop by learning new words, but, also use those words in day to-day conversation, sure u will see the difference in a month time.
Sarita, language comes by speaking n writing, do write small articles which gives u higher internal motivation, try out n feel the result. "Smarter u plan, faster u execute".........Keep rocking.......:icon1:

Also give to me I have also same problem My english is very poor so i want to improve myself i would be very greatfull if u could send me this info/doc
Dear Sarita,
I agree with Chum...i was also going through the same situation as you are going on.
Read english newspaper daily. Also watch english news channel (Mainly Discussion) & English Movie n try to follow them how they are communicating. One more thing u can try is, write down whatever u are doing daily. Try to think always in english, by which your thought process in english will increase.
This way you can improve your english.
send me a test mail in i will send u some materials i have collected.
Regards,
Veer

Therez nothing impossible in this world, learning english is very easy, it just needs a good practice and a mere concentration.
Think before you talk is what i normally follow.....
i guess everyone holds a mobile with them, y dont u play with tat...the game starts like this
press on the record button, read any newspaper and make sure that the voice is recorded and then try to listen to your own words, try to find out the mistakes and rectify them...
so simple isnt it...
you are the best teacher for yourself............
am sure this way u can improve ....
Cheers,
Kiran

:) Hai Saritha,
Speaking or Writing English is not a difficult task. It comes with experience and your interest and involvement in knowing the language. Do read a lot and dont hesitate to write or speak, let the mistakes happen. That may help you improve your language.

All the best Saritha........

Hi Sarita,
By looking at your Posting, I am able to point one thing that, " You are writing in the way you pronounce it". For example, "Grammar" and you have written as "Grammer". "Follow" and you have written "Fallow".
Its very simple for you to correct yourself and moreover written is different and the way you speak is different.

The biggest mistake or the biggest issue that we as Indians face in speaking grammatically correct English is because we Think in our Native mother tongue and we try to speak in the same manner.

1. Firstly stop speaking the way you think.
2. Please stop writing in the SMS dialect, i.e. using short cuts e.g. "You" is written as simply "u". A good e.g. is the first reply that you have got to your post. Please don't do that, you'll only worsen your present situation
3. There is a book by Norman Bates(I am not sure about the author). This is a novel which will help give you a Step By Step guide in improving your vocabulary. Doesn't cost much Approx Rs 100/-.
4. Invest in a Oxford dictionary, it will help you understand meanings to different words. Remember English is one language which has the largest number of words.
5. Which newspaper do you read? Start with simple Childrens comic books e.g. Tinkle or Amar Chitra Katha, but no Archies or Chacha Chaudary.
6. Converse in English whenever possible, it'll help build your confidence
7. If you are not clear about the way a particular word is pronounced ASK someone who can help you.

Keep doing the above and soon with practice you'll pick the Queen's Language.

My opinion
I agree with Anoop. He has given very good suggestions to improve the English Language. Specially, we must stop speaking English the way we think in our native languages.
Last but not least...Practice, Practice and only practice, Because Practice makes a man perfect.
Try to solve Language Comprehension section of different competitive examination, and it may serve the purpose in several ways.
