Hello,
I am persuing PGDM in Marketing & HRM (dual, both having equal weightage) from an upcoming AICTE approved Autonomous B School in Chhattisgarh. I am a fresher with no work experience. I want to seek a career as a faculty in some management institutes in future. But, for that, i want to have some corporate experience for few years (about 4-5) in the field of HR. Kindly advice, is my approach correct, or should i directly try for a faculty after completion of my PGDM.
Also, i would like to know how is the scope ahead (in terms of opportunities as well as monitory terms) in the academic field.
Kindly help me out to shape up my career.
Regards,
Mayank Kukreja

Hi Mayank

Its good thought that you want to get into academic feild rather than industry . Coz, these days getting good faculty is very difficult.

but for that i would suggest, you better do higher studies .. may be an Mphil , i am sure after that u can easily get a lecturer post.
then .. slowly ..u can raise to professor level within a span fo say 8-15 yrs depending upon the institution. Getting into academics requires persistence, patience and continous studying.
getting an industry exposure is good , but the prob is that after getting 5 yrs industry exposure.. people think that they can sit back and relax as a lecturer ...that's probably the reason the quality of fresh MBA grads in our country (especially second level bschools) are decreasing these days ...

so... my suggestion would be to go for higher studies...or try writing NET /JRF and get into somewhere as a lecturer
Yes..one thing... monetary wise.. academics means .. just one fourth salary of equivalent industry..
but for a person who is inclined towards academics and in moulding the next generation of MBA grads... money wont be a constraint
all the best!

Dear Mayank,
Autonomus B School and Premier School concepts are commercial gimmicks. These kind of education is informal education because until and unless you persue your studies from university recognised and approved education with official university degree your qualification has no validity. even for overseas education and advance studies and migration they ask university degree only.
It is therefore these autonomus and premier B school education has no validity for career point of view. They are treated as informal education but for overseas employment, migration and government jobs only University Degree is valid.
This is my practicle and valuable advice.

Rashid
