Hi!!! As per your query is it reagrding the public holidays that which you are asking for or the Employee’s personal Holiday?
From India, Madras
15th August & 26th January are compusory holidays but not 1st May. The third one is 2nd October, which is Mahatma Gandhi’s birth day, is a compulsory holiday.
From India, Calcutta
three national and 8 to 12 festival holidays should be provided to the employees as per factories act -1948 and shop and commercial estmts. act1961. wasim

Dear All
Please note that Holidays are a schedule item under The Industrial Employment Standing Orders Act 1946. ( Please see the Schedule. Item No.2 )
A Model Standing Order will contain this provision.
This should be taken as a clarification to Mr Siva's observation that Standing Orders have nothing to do with the Holidays.
Please note that State / Industry practices may differ . Some may give the minimum / more but Holidays are a Standing Orders item.

Shahida is right, and mohan if holiday is given as per your statement, everybody will be happy including me also. But, as what washim has told is right. 5+6/7=11/12 Compulsory is 10 okay one grace.

Dear all

There waqs mention about Factories ac in one of these replies for National and Festival Holidays

Please note that Industries and establishments are covered only under The National and Festival Holidays Act and no other Act has any jurisdiction on this subject including Standing orders

Industrial Employment Standing Orders was enacted earlier to National and Festival Hol,idays Act and hence there was a mention in the schedule It was not delketed. IUt is well settled in law that the legislation enacted later will have overriding effect on the clauses mentioned in earlier legislations if theye were not specifically repealed. Hence, I reiterate that one needs to refer only to National and Festival Holidays Act for any clarification on the Number of days.

There were references that we can have 12 days etc in some repl, ies
We can have any number of days. There is no ceiling
BVut we are talking here about the minimum number of days allowed under law.

This again varies from State to State

As I said it varies from 9 to 12

Tamilnadu has 9 Karnatka has 10 Keral 12 Delhi has 9 You need to refer to local act for this

No one seems to have observed my posting on Holiday for the General Election I am raisning this subject now because while planning for Hol,idays for next year, we must plan one more extra day.. Manufacturing people should note this as they will start screaming when the holiday is declared Please plan for one extra holiday for the year 2009 for the general election

By which Act is in Delhi the minimum number of holidays for service sector 9? Anyone can comment? I think its only 3 by Shops & Estblsmt Act and The National Festival and Holidays Rules (Punjab One applicable to Delhi) is applicable only to establishments under Factory Act.
