Hai,
There is no problem in recruiting retired employees.
My experience is give them as a direct consultant for minimum of 1 yr. Based on thier ability and performance you can extend the contract.
They need not be covered under statutory requirements as it is specific contract.

Check this,
When you plan to hire retired people, remember few points,
1. They are retired and tend to be slower than their usual at work.
2. They might have made secondary commitments in life other than work.
3. They are not willing to work any more but for the want of something.
And most importantly, they are never going work too long with you.
So after all this, if you still feel that they can deliver more than any other employee in the short period that they can work for you,
Take them, there is no law which would stop you from doing it.
Ensuring thier well being and paying them may be gratuity should be enough.

Hi,
My experience says.
1. Retired people can not be taken on rolls
2. We can always take them on contract which can be extended minimum 6 months.
3. Payment also should be on Voucher and not thru any process.
4. Only consolidated amount to be paid as 'services offered'.
5. We can also hire them on Hourwise basis.
6. No record to be maintained mentioning any transactions with them as employee.
