If you know little bit of database techniques then you can use Microsoft Access for maintaining the resume database.
In that there are already build databases which you can download directly and with little modification and customization u can use for any purpose you want

Thanks for the suggestion. In fact thanks to all for the help extended. But i think there must be something better to maintain the database only. May be filtering in the excel sheet or using the MS Access. If i'll find something useful for all, i'll definitely revert.
You can just log on to google.com, type E-staff and it would give you an option to download the software.

The E-staff software that you suggested is indeed wonderful, very comprehensive and very useful. But i want to know if you too are using it or if you know someone who's currently using it? My main concern is that the software is absolutely free to use. But is it expected that in a month or so, the software stops working and it prompts us to buy? If yes, how much does the software cost? For a free ware it is impossible to expect any support as well.
I would like to have the opinion that is it advisable to invest time & effort on free ware or not?

Just few days before I have downloaded the software, I am understanding its features and how it exactly works. The software looks excellent. Regarding its validity I dont think we need to buy it.I will take the full information of it & will let you know.

PFA Candidate MIS.xls for your perusal.
It captures the entire essential data of the candidate right from the first time you talk to the candidate, interview scheduling and their status, and finally the offer stage till the candidate actually joins.
It is a comprehensive report which I use for my candidates, wherein I do not need to get back and refer to my mails again and again for knowing the current status of each and every candidate.
You are most welcome to give your comments / reviews & suggestions in improvising on the same.

The software is indeed excellent. Even i'm trying to understand the same fully. However, i'm quite eager to start maintaining the database on the same but m lil hesitant, as i said earlier, because the software is downloaded for free and mught cause some restrictions in future. The software is Russian and costs around 25,000 INR for two users. I'll wait for your feedback as well.

I was going through this posting and thought to respond. I am working with a big consultancy firm in Delhi and we use "Recruit Plus - A product from ITCONS e-Solutions". Couple of things need to be kept in deciding for an ATS are as follows:
1. Is there a need for automated ATS (Applicant Tracking System) - Yes, It not only helps organizing resumes but a good ATS helps reducing the total time of seaching and processing a resume.
2. If yes what would be salient features the industry would prefer - One shd see if this helps in searching the resumes on various search conditions like total experience, current company, designation, past company, salary, education, college name, location etc apart from a key word search.
3. What are the common pain points for Recruitment and Staffing Companies? - To get the data lying in the mails, which is unused and to search for the right fitment from the database quickly.
4. Would you prefer it to be on a subscription model or a onetime payment model - Since most of the companies offer ATS on both the models, one has to see the one time purchase cost vis a vis TCO in monthly subcription model. To me, if the company is small say till 5 users, they shd opt for monthly model.
5. What would be the price you will be willing to pay for both the models - I have seen demos of all the good ATS in India, every one is priced on number of users license basis model. roughly each user license is between 7k to 15k.
