Dear all
I have some query on the air ticket entitlement for expatriate employees.
What is the frequency of the ticket? Do all expats get the ticket once a year or once every two years?
Do companies book the ticket for the employee or do they pay money to the employee instead of giving the ticket?
Where money is given, how is the amount of money calculated? Do employers pay the published IATA fares or have different ways of calculating the amount?
Given the fact that a major poplulation of expats are labourers, how do companies handle the air ticket benefit for them?
Looking forward to your responses.

Dear Shaila,

Generally air tickets are given in two segments namely:
  • yearly
  • once in two years
It's on the sole discretion of the company to whether to issue tickets yearly or once in 2 years. Generally blue collar employees are given once in 2 yrs along with their leave salary and white collars once in a year along with their leave salary.

Secondly, some companies tie up with a travel agency to issue all their air tickets.Few bigger companies have a fixed rate for various destinations for that year.

If companies are paying by cash they give it by the existing IATA fares.

Having a workforce of a high number, companies generally opt for paying the amount into their salaries on the due month. They have a fixed rate for that year for various destinations(as mentioed above). This is hassle free and saves a lot of time and work.

Hope this clarifies your queries.

Sandeep
