As I was passing the elephants, I suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not.

I saw a trainer near by and asked why these beautiful, magnificent animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away. "Well," he said, "when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it's enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away.

They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free." I was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn't, they were stuck right where they were.

Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before?

It can boost up the confidence of a dead person also....good work. Keep posting such stories.....
Hi: Your postings are astonishingly good always. Wishing you the very best. Tx Santosh Bengre
Mr Peer, Its truly good. i appreciate it. A thoughtful of you... Wishes & Regards, Suhashini.
very good example to state the mindset. our mindset is blocked by many such chains or ropes either through beliefs or incidents.
Ya absolutely, the above story should be a moral for people who thinks in the same fashion with a similar attitude.. so Mr. Peer Mohammad i think its a very useful story to motivate some people
Hi everybody
I was just wondering about motivation theory and young Jain saints. We usually see that a young person at age of 13 opt for diksha and joins as saint. Inspite knowing facts that its painfull life at that age but they opt for the path.
can anyone tells what motivate them and which motivation theory works to motivate a young boy / girl who has not seen this world and opt for to become saint.....

mr sardar, it was really excellent story,
it's not about the elephant it's about us that some times we are conditioned to certain things that we cant go against any things coz our mind is conditioned to do in the particular way....

Dear HR friends,
self belief and self confidence are the two pillars of result orientation. Just to substantiate that ,I will just remind you the LONGAWALA OPERATION which all of you must have seen in movie BORDER. Pakistani tanks were in such a commanding position that they could have just crossed the minefield and annihilated the company which was defending the post, though it could have been at a cost which inany case they paid in terms of life and tanks. Pakistani commander never thought of crossing the minefield because he lacked self belief and confidence in his forces and himself. Now look at Indian company commander, that time Major Chandpuri, when the question was asked whether he was scared of the possibility of Pakistani tanks crossing the minefield and attacking them, his reply was that in that eventuality also Pakis would have suffered casualities and a sure defeat because of firm determination of Indian troops.
Question is of self belief and self confidence?
THIS BATTLE CHANGED THE COURSE OF OPERATIONS ON WESTERN FRONTS IN 1971.
Thanks and regards,
