Recently we conducted our quarterly meeting in a Resort far away from city. some managers were happy by the locations and peaceful climate. and some are not happy coz of far away from city, coz if they want any thing they have to go to city to buy that, some times they will not get time to go city.

and now some saying the next meeting should be conducted in Resorts and some saying no to Resorts.

So i want your comments on this Issue. As a HR i prefer Resort coz of Nice location with trees and mountains, we can have peaceful meeting there. we arranged cottages there in the Resorts itself and conducting meetings in Resorts is very less expensive when compared to star hotel. managers has to bring all their necessary things before meetings.

People are like the five fingers. None of them alike. What i feel is that you should take a vote on the issue of choosing a resort for the meeting from the existing managers. If the vote is in favour of going to a resort for a meeting then go ahead otherwise ask for their suggestion and choose from it.

just ask for their area of preference in writing (ballot system) and u will see that most of them will be in favour of the resorts.

This was one such an item I was desperately looking for. I am working for a PSU in Hyderabad and had recently attended one of HR meets at a resort nearby Hyd. Since, I was a participant there, I did not work out the details further. Recently, I proposed to my senior to hold our meets/conferences in such resorts and the expenditure when worked out appeared to be on a very higher side. Your contention about resorts falling cheap may not hold good as they charge exorbitantly.
Pl give details of your meet location and the no. of participants so as to enable me to plan for such a location.

Hi tejesh, I too agree with Shweta as people think differently.Cost of holding the trainings/conference at resorts also depends on the location of the resort. Regards, Clarence Colaco

Thanks for starting this interesting thread and thanks for your post. I am from Pharma industry as well, nevertheless this topic would suit all industries across.

We arrange most of our programs like cycle meetings and training programs ONLY in resorts. Following are some of the reasons for it:

  • Will always fit into your budget and they are not that expensive like city hotels.
  • There is no pressure of vacating the hall beyond 6pm, as city hotels have scheduled parties or dinner meets after we vacate the hall.
  • Participants staying and connected in resorts give you an edge to plan out home works or activities – after meetings/ training sessions are over.
  • There are no late-comers !!!

Participants will always have mixed opinion about having meetings in resorts. But then, weighing the benefits I would always agree with you in holding meetings/ trainings in resorts.

I totally agree with Sowmini. Going to a new resort has a lot of possibilities. There are resorts like the Big Beach in Pondicherry that gives you OBT, Paint ball, Obstacle course, Catamaran rides etc that can't be provided by city hotels.

well. i would suggest people to perform adventure and team activities in campsites. these days, there are plenty of campsite in every city. like fever pitch basecamp in bangalore. they combine, adventure, teambuilding, paintball and watersports. with fresh food and nigthstays.the entire event will be complete. resorts dont provide these activities. they let u play carrom chess.isnt it a non-sense.
