Dear HR fraternityOurs is a 25 people medium size Software industry. We are in the process of implementation of Access control system at our office ( main door) which will be working on thumb impression of employees. This new system will help to restrict the unwanted entries, enable us to work in flexible hours timing and generates reports for payroll and attendance purpose. As system gives the well formulated muster reports in more precise manner; in that case do we need to maintain the muster register in office?, Does Shop act and other legislative officers trust on online report copies of attendance?.To have this thumb impression system what are the leagl procedure needs to be fulfilled from companies side. Kindly guide me I am in a great dilemma because in this connection we will be having our flexi working hours policy in place so that with the help of this access contaol system we can trace the employees entries.Thanking you all in anticepation.Regards,Mona

the legal dept will ask for attendance as per the relevant law and formate, your attendance system cannt replace legal formalities.
We have also attendance softwr but for Shops Act we are doing it manually with no information as to flexy timings or overtime. since you have 25 employees its not a big issue , we are doing it for 220 employees.
Otherwise you can also consult the labour department for the same.

Dear Anirban,Thanks for your reply; Actually it is possible to get exemption under Shop & establishment act from Labour commisoners office. They have certain headings which we have to maintain or its manadatory other wise we have full liberty to maintain it any of the word / excel format. You please concern to the labour department its possible for you to get exemption. I have filed an application for the same because maintaing all this records manually is not possible and then whats the use of advancement of software if we are following the traditional waty of maintaing data.Onec you file your application say within month or so you get the permamnent order .Regards,Mona
