Being in Hr the person needs to think according to the company benefits. There is a good way in reducing the cost of the company with the employee capabilities , a person can handle the situations if he is an experienced in their required field.

it is fine that person is capable enough to handle both responsibilities. But he can not hold two designation officialy at one time. He can be either Asst to chairman or commercial officer handling second responsibility.

In regards to your query, an employee cannot be given two different designation however he can perform two different roles. How efficient and capable the person is depends. In my wife's organization it was the same scenario. She wasappointed as an EA to MD however she was performing a role of Sales co-ordinator as well as handling resignee deck. But her designation was of an EA. These function line of reporting was the MD hence there were no issues.
My point to you is that a person can multi task and organizations look out for people with these qualities. But dual designation is a not a good concept to be followed.

Hi All,
This usually happens in smaller organizations but not the right thing to do.
As a successfull Organization, we need to makr careers and not just look at work done. Here this peson in question does two different kinds of work. We are neither building his career nor are we creating an atmosphere devoid of conflicts. There can be conflict of interests, conflicts on supervisory command, etc.
And mostly, when this person realizes he is being 'used', he will resign and then the Company will suddenly be less of '2' people.

hi Fay, I think, one person may handle many responsibilities but not two designations. because he cannot do justification for both. regards sadhana

There are no rules to prevent such arrangement. Depends entiely upon the organization as well as the individuals capacity.

Hi Fay,
I think it should not be this way.........in a way it will not give role clarity to the person...and his he will have prbms in his appraisala also.....if the ratings of both the managers are at the extremes.

Hello fay... well yeah m a new budd in this site.. well wat i feel for your question is that a person (Ethically) should not work at two designations at one time.. but as i guss sujata has told that it depends on the designaiton also.. i mean an executive assistant can surly give time to other responsiblilities. but at the same time if u say that a person working as a recruitment executive can surly not work at another designations..
