Good work on the Buddy program .
Just a few questions for you to ponder so as to make your process framework more clearer.
1) for 6 months what could the buddy and the new employee discuss.
2) How would the buddy benefit in the process.
3) As a organisation would you want the "Buddy" nomination to be a totally a volunteering process ?

Thanks for the questions,
Let me answer your points.
1) We have a monthly reporting format designed for both new joinee as well as the buddy.
2) The buddies are basically high potentials, identified within your organisation. They get a chance to act as coaches and mentors to the new joinees and incase they are not too sure of the policies and the procedures then they get a timely chance to update their knowledge.
3) We identify the buddies.

Since you have the questions already looked into the process should prove to be effective. However you may want to define there role as a buddy / coach or a mentor as all the three roles look at different objectives and action items.
