Currently I am handling the Hr activities of a retail client.. We had worked on a national holiday.. The practise here for paymetn of double wages is the ordinary rate of wage + double wages for working on that holiday(Totally triple wages for working on National Holiday).. Is this the currect method....???

Let me remind you ! that Normally Working on National Holidays is a legal "offence" :icon7: for which the Employer / Company can be taken to task, by the Labour deptt.
Even retail outlets cant open on a Republics day or Gandhi Jayanti Day,as amark of respect. But we indians are great at subverting Laws, However, if you are talking about wages being paid to employees, for working on a weekly off or a declared Holiday is normally the "Double" the nominal wage. Any thing beyond is a bonus ! :icon6:

The policy your company is following is absolutely correct. Overtime is given for excess hours worked which is double the rate, so the logic is:
1 day for Normal Attendance + 2 rate of hours worked on Holiday (remember the person is not suppose to work on a holiday).

The above thing is new to me can you provide for any legal reference retailing to the above in case of Factories?? It will be of great help.

You are right that working on a National Holiday is a Legal Holiday. But we all know that Factory Inpector and Labour Officers are very efficient and accurate and VERY VERY HONEST. THEY ARE NOT TAKING BRIBES. THATS WHY IN INDIA CONTRACT WORKERS AND LABOURERS ARE WORKING ON NATIONAL HOLIDAY AND GETTING SINGLE RATE OF WAGES.

This is not a Offence to work on any national Holiday, provided you are paying the wages to the wormen by tripple rate. This is not wrtten any where in books but common understanding says that "On National Holiday person is not supposed to work and if he works he will get Ordinary Wages+Double Over Time."
With this while we inform the Factory inspector about the Office order regarding NAtional Holiday i.e. for Workers working in establishment the language should be like as under:
"The Factory & Office shall observed holiday on 15 August 2013 on the occassion of Independence Day, however the essential Services of the plant will continue to work"
