Hallo to all my seniors.......
I need ur suggestion. I m doing MBA (2nd semm) under Sikkim-Manipal University in Guwahati. From next semm we hav to take our specialization subjects. We hav single specialization. I m interested in HR but i hav that its scope is very less spc. in da north-east. So i m really worried abt my future/ job prospect. Moreover our college doesn't hav campussing.
Another important thing i would like to know- as we hav single specialisation, can we get Marketing jobs even if we do MBA in HR. Or do we hav to study Marketing separately (after passing) to get jobs in marketing ??????
Plz suggest i m confused.
I m awaiting for ur valuable suggestions within dis friday.

Hi,
There is nothing to worry about at all. MBA is a comprehensive course and ensures that you can easily handle all admin jobs. As far as HR is concerned, you could move to any of the metro's and get a job here.
Also, you could get a marketing job as well.

Hi,
You can confidently take HR Specilization, because in my openion both HR & marketing jobs in one point of view requires same qualities and skills.
here are some similarities..
1.)in marketing you need interact with clients.
in HR you need to interact with people in oraganisation.
2 )in both marketing and HR you need to have good communication skills and negiotiation skills.
3) in marketing you have understand the changes in market conditions and accordingly you have to change your plans.
in HR you have to understand the job market conditions and make eployee retention palns accordingly.
ofcourse.. as a HR you need not travel.
these are very few similarities i've found in both HR & Marketing jobs.but i can not say that both these professions are one and same.
Dear Senior members please corect me if i am not clear about my openion.

Pmon,
I WILL NOT encourage you to take up HR as specialization IF you are plannin to stay in NEast..
I am an HR Prof for the last 5 Years in the Eastern Region, and what i see is there are PLENTY of jobs to choose from in ANY Metro near your home - Kolkata or Delhi & relatively much lesser but still considerable nos in Guwahati, siliguri etc etc Tier 2 Cities.
Again if you are looking to take Marketing the Oppourtunities might be more but in NE it is equally Limited....
The cAll is Yours ! Hope this helps..

Hello Pmon,
It is better you decide between HR and Marketing, because when you go for placement, people will judge you by your specialisation.
HR-> lesser opportunities, lesser pay, lesser workload, lesser tension, lesser growth
Mktg-> All of the above are in excess.
If you are doing MBA and want to grow, then maybe you will have to shift from NE to Kolkata or Delhi.

Hi,
You need to be focussed first of all.Decide whether you want to opt for Marketing or HR.Getting a job in both the fields as a fresher is very complex. If in case you think that, you are really good at people management, interaction and interpersonal skills, then opt for HR. If you think that you are good at analysis, branding and new ideas, then go for marketing.
Regards,
Chanda
