Dear friend,
I found this post really interesting, nice that we have such a discussion on this.....
But i would also bring to your notice the contributing factor of ICL, had the ICL not come up with such an idea, possibly there would not have been IPL....THANKS TO ICL at First.
according to me the success of IPL was due to some of the following factors.
1. Money Factor.
2. Support of ICC
3. The contract terms between players
4. Marketing of Teams
5. Franchieese owners and their image among public ie stars like SRK.
6. Timing of match and the period that matches with the vacation time.
7. The cheer groups.
8. And yes some lessons from ICL model, which they could study and improve upon it.....
Friends ...
i would like u to discuss posibble reasons for less popularity of ICL also...... hope u can come out with some good reasons....
Thanks
George:)

hi all
i think ipl was a big hit bcoz of
  1. money
  2. glamour by stars
  3. time(20-20)
  4. vacation time
  5. well planed event
  6. combination of team(people were keen to see thier fav players worldwide playing in the same team)
i think we should jot down the points like this n then after discusion should select th emost structured points n make a model

Also to add upon that...
I went to see one match in chennai...
The entertainment arrangements are really good...
More over Duration of 20 20 matches are very less...
But advertisements and Betting stands first...

Hello everybody,
well speaking of the "Business Model" of IPL, must say everybody had done a good homework before properly executing this idea of series of 14 matches. It proved to be beneficial for the foolowing people :
* The business tycoons or the companys who Owned the teams.. It was sort of a betting game for all of them.Putting thier money on all the players.
* The companys who sponsered the teams, helped in thier publicity and business.
* The players who earned big bucks.
* New talent got a golden chance. eg. The Rajasthan- the winnign team mostly consisted new faces.
* Involvement of celebrities helped in gaining everyone attention. Their involvement assured for the media Limelight and more popularity.
* Advertising agencies earned like hell.. maikng adds and songs for each team and all.
* SONY MAX / SET MAX channel.- the one who broadcasted all the matches.

Strategies used all the way from the starting point to finishing point had given the rgt amount of importance to the following ingrediants of a successful recipe:
* Entertainment
* popularity
* Involvement of all the international players - this one was a very innovative idea according to me.
* the Bidding funda for forming different teams- this was also a innovative and first of its kind idea.
* 20- 20 ka hit formula
* publicity
* media coverage
* Profit interest for evryone involved in the IPL.
* The Time factor - Initailly ppl werent inclined so much, put later IPL proved to grab everyones attention.

Well and at the end it repayed back everyone the price they deserved:
* the owner of the winning team
* the palyers of the winning team
* the audience who got a great package of entertainment.
* and the ppl who betted on the winning teams ;) hehe

so all in all.. ppl made business out of every indian's fav game - CRICKET !!!!

warm regards

Hi to all,
For IPL to be successful it is basically the involvement of the film stars and the team players beause there were best of the best teams participating having top players in the team which made people to involve more so as to find who will performe better
It is basically the selection of the players in the team which made the team strong or weak..........

Hi All
i guess it was
1.Time factor
2.Timing of the matches (evenings and only match on weekdays)
3.good quality cricket, as people were not biased about India or Pakistan or England and finally
4. Jeete chahe koi bhi,Trophy to India mein hi hai na..
