Hello everyone,
I am working with the organization from last six month and the HR dept. is continuously facing one big problem i.e. timing issues. The office timings are started from 9:30 and the company expects the employee to be on time, but the employees are not maintaining their arrival timing. Please suggest what to do?? Some motivational tips or encouragement tips which will be helpful to the organization.
Thanks

You could incentivize coming on time, or dis-incentivize being late.
Coming on time is a basic discipline and if all your employees are lax on arriving time, there might be a larger problem you might want to address. Maybe your company makes the employees work until very late, and hence they come late next morning.
Seems to be a larger problem going on rather than just discipline issues at your company.

Thanks for the valuable suggestion...
The employees are not staying late as our company is not providing over-time facility, so the company is also expecting that all employees should be on time. Can anyone help in motivational tips, so that there will be healthy competition in arrival timings...

Hi,
If employees are signing in the attendance register then you may circulate a notice, that the attendance register shall be removed from the security/reception, as the case may be, at 9:45 am. I.e Employees arriving in the office after 9:45 am will not be able to mark the attendance for that particular day. However, Employees arriving late due to official commitments must have an OD supporting it, they may be allowed to mark attendace on that day itself.
Attendance for rest of the employees can be subsequently, if required, marked present (after the completion of attendance cycle) subject to the approval apporval from the HOD only (not reporting manager).
As suggested by other members, you may deduct half/full day BASIC salary as well. More importantly, link their punctuality with their Appraisal/Bonus/incentive to induce them to take it more seriously.
That's one of the ways of disciplining them. Hope this would help.

Instead of blindly making policies, giving grace time of 15 mins, deducting pay , leaves for more than 3 days late coming first get to the root cause of problem.
Sometimes problem lies with employees, sometimes with employer, Company culture also influences a lot for these late comings.
A detailed study of your company environment needs to be done, then only it can be predicted whether the late coming is really a problem or not.
Give more details about your company, nature of work, your company culture, values, values and behaviour of Director / CEO of company etc.
Then the solution can be found out.

Such issues are generally found in all th organisation, bigger or smaller. Simple procedures can be followed to curb such employees behavior of late coming.
1. If you have a punching system, set a late coming time, give grace time of about 5 - 10 min for max. 2-3 days in a month.
2. Calculate the total late comings min. in a month. If it is more then 30 min. deduct one leave, and if more than 30 min. issue a warning letter/memo.
3. Eventhough the employee is not punctual , you can take any disciplinary action against them.
Its simple and it works. Do pass a late coming circular before implementing any late compay policy.
Let me know if it is beneficial to you and ur company.
