Dear Leelab,
It is not clear how many days he worked in your company.
Before contemplating on any action please find out if there is any document
which states that he has taken the Laptop.
Are you having this recorded in any register in which he has signed?
Is there any e mail evidence?
Is there any offer letter that can be produced?
Take a photo of his whats up message along with his mobile number display.
It will have the message and his mobile number.
In this way you can bring to record his intentions.
