It seems like it's in the news almost every day. Type 2 diabetes is on the rise, not only in this country, but around the world. Of the 300 million people living in the U.S., almost 21 million have been diagnosed with diabetes. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) <link updated to site home> , cases of Type 2 diabetes will double in about 40 years.
Being overweight and living a sedentary lifestyle are the leading causes of type 2 diabetes. Keeping weight down and being physically active can prevent diabetes. The Weight Control Information Network calculates that about 68.5 million (34.1%) Americans are overweight or obese.
