In February 2008, a row erupted in Mumbai after Thackeray's controversial remarks about the migrant population from the north Indian states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in the city. Later, his party's activists clashed with activists of the Samajwadi Party, a regional party from Uttar Pradesh. Thackeray also criticized noted film actor Amitabh Bachchan, who is originally from Uttar Pradesh, for "taking more interest in Uttar Pradesh than Maharashtra", in spite of achieving his fame and fortune in Mumbai. Analysts have interpreted these developments as an attempt by Thackeray to move into the limelight, and strike at the Shiv Sena, which was trying to woo north Indian votes.Thackeray, along with Samajwadi Party leader Abu Asim Azmi, was arrested by the Mumbai Police on February 13, 2008 under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. He was granted bail on the same day
On February 10, 2008, MNS workers attacked vendors and shopkeepers from North India in various parts of Maharashtra, and destroyed government property to vent their anger against the reported move to arrest Raj Thackeray.Party workers of Raj Thackeray demolished the houses of North Indians. Our party condemns it. The Constitution of the country does not say that people of other states cannot reside in Maharashtra.
.......................Yes, this is something which all of us know since its the latest scoop flashing across the Indian news channels. Everyone fulfilling his or her vested interest through this episode. Media's benefit of raising TRPs. Raj Thackeray taking revenge from Shiv Sena and wanting to hog some spotlight to feed his fantasies of become Maharashtra's CM. Politicians grabbing the opportunity of condemning this and that and mudslinging on each other. How disappointing is that? Amidst all this, has anyone thought for our Nation? Our Nation would have progressed so much if we had the patriotic spirit equal to the Casteism Spirit. Why is none keeping a tab on this hostility, violence and Gunda Raj atleast thinking that India is a democracy.Maharashtrians dont want UP and Bihar residents in their state, the national spirit seems to have gone down the drain. All we hear is the name of States but has anyone given a serious thought over India as a Nation as a Country. Where have the visionaries gone who are concerned about the Country more than the Vote Bank? Can anyone foresee, we seem to be heading like the Soviet Union way. No wonder, soon i would have to apply for a Maharashtrian Visa, if i have to travel from Delhi to Mumbai. If we continue this way and the politicians keep drooling for their own interest, keeping the Country's Interest at bay, I can clearly see India heading towards Doom..Any Lip Service??
