Default Is being single female problem for promotion

Hi Friends,

I work in night shift, handling major work among team.

Able to pick work in a short period(newly joined and new to US operations) and i got appreciation from senior mgnt for my performance, now our team is increased and we few married females joined.

Now management is considering one of my colleague for very senior position and by boss use to tell her learn because i will get marry and go, though it was joke, but i know they are not joking, infact our senior management asked about my marriage plans. I told them that i will marry and stay in hyderabad and continue in same job.

I am not happy the way i am treated.

Do we have any laws which says that company cant discriminate on the basis of marriage.

please share your views.

thanks
pallavi.

Such a discrimination is bad in law in US.

In India there is o such law directly. But it is unfair and if this goes to court, you will get a cewrdict in your favour. But by the time you get a judgenment, you would have lost the critical period of your career.

Try convincing and get married locally and continue.

There is some truth in their fear.. is it not? legal and ethical aspect on one side... practical problem on the other side.

What decison you will take if you were the Decision making authority??

Thanks for the response, I agree there is some truth, but they know verywell that i am single and my age, then y did not they pose the question at the time of interview and y they are asking now.

they should have put straight forwardly to me at the time of interview or shouldn't have offered the job.

Can we give guarantee of a single male or married employee??????

Anyways indian society is like that and you are rite in saying that judgement will take long time.
